One of the big questions at the "Meet the Candidates" night was about the property owned by Michael Struckman that is being targeted by the village for annexation. Most of the candidates focused on apartments or townhomes, with both Crego and Cunningham putting forth the idea of a 55+ retirement community for that land. There seemed to be a big focus on the potential arrival of Section 8 housing if they build apartments on the property, but Geiger noted that she did not want to stereotype homes and that potential apartments might bring in more diversity. Crego also noted that apartments might be a good way to keep people in CP, as they serve as good interim housing for people who are moving out of their parent's homes for the first time or moving back to the area after school.

More from the "Meet the Candidates" night - Commercial Point village council.

There are six candidates on the ballot for village council, and five of them showed up for the meeting: Chuck Cunningham, Nancy Geiger (incumbent), Eric Nungester, Jason West, and Ross Crego. The sixth candidate, Laura Wolfe, is currently a member of the village council.

Nancy Geiger (incumbent):
- Started the parks committee and is currently looking for grants to build up CP's parks, including lighting around the park by the post office and decorative flags
- Wants to see more community events/fundraisers: food truck festivals, farmers markets, etc.
- Wants to see parks like South Bloomfield but noted that the large park in SB is built on land that was donated; presses developers for green space within each new development.
- She also wants to see a streets department, a full-time mayor and village administrator, and a village charter

Ross Crego (currently the village administrator):
- Touted his work experience and work ethic, stated that he was working for Jesus
- Said he was obligated to represent the community
- 3 times on council in the past
- Wants to form a group of up to 50 residents as a sounding board for ideas
- He noted that the 104 corridor is the logical place for industry and foresees housing from the village down to 104 and up to the Franklin County line within the next 10 years
- Wants to see responsible expansion, a thoroughfare plan to determine what roads need to be 3 or 4 lanes, and a village charter

Chuck Cunningham:
- Member of the CP Men's Club
- Lived in the village for three years but works for SWACO in Columbus
- Coaches youth sports and stated that he is running for council for the kids because they don't have a lot to do in town
- He's worried about what impact the rapid growth of the village will have on TV schools
- Wants to make sure we have the proper infrastructure for growth and wants to see a streets department

Jason West:
- Graduated in 1996 from Amanda Clearcreek schools, just moved back to Ohio from Arizona
- Fiscal conservative
- Travels for business, unclear what his job actually is
- Wants to see slow growth, including a list of the things we need before expanding further

Eric Nungester:
- Lifetime CP resident, ancestors founded the village
- Navy veteran, former law enforcement officer in Pickaway County
- Wants to see monthly meetings with residents in the neighborhoods since we don't have "wards" like other places for council members to represent
- Wants to see a full-time mayor as well as a grant writer for the village in order to use other people's money to get the things we want for CP
- In terms of growth he wants to be forward-thinking and wants to stop the patchwork stuff (annexations without a plan, etc.), wants to work with other entities like the township
- Knows the Ohio Revised Code well

More from the "Meet the Candidates" night - Scioto Township Trustee.

As with the school board, there is only one name printed on the ballot - Ralph W. Wolfe (incumbent). There are, however, three additional write-in candidates: Bart Fannin, Martha Marshman, and Gregory E. Thomas. Wolfe was the only candidate to attend the meeting. Some notes on Wolfe:

- He was vocal about the fact that the other candidates not showing for the meeting "speaks volumes."
- He seems to be a long-time trustee and has a very good rapport with the mayor and council members.
- The warehouses aren't his fault - those were all approved by the village.
- He is responsible for the new township website as well as some grants for new park equipment; he specifically cited the new playground equipment at the park in Orient.
- Wants to work more closely with the village on roads and other infrastructure, particularly when it comes to new roads being put in for additional warehouses.

The overall impression of Wolfe is that he fully expects to be re-elected as a township trustee, and did not need to give a whole lot of information. There were very few additional questions asked of him after he gave his statement. He does, however, have quite a bit of experience as a trustee.

As for the other candidates, there does not seem to be much information about any of them other than a Circleville Herald article about their write-in candidacies being approved. Fannin is the husband of Nichole Fannin who is running as a write-in candidate for the Teays Valley school board.

Some news and notes from the "Meet the Candidates" night from last Wednesday. Let's start with the Teays Valley School Board:

The ballot only has Charles D. Morrison (incumbent) listed as a candidate. Two write-in candidates, however, are also in the running for the open seat(s): Glenna Archer and Nichole Fannin. Fannin was the only candidate to attend the meeting, and she has also posted to the TV Parents page with some of her views. Archer has also made a post to the Parents page. Here are some of the notes from the "Meet the Candidates" night...

- She is a self-proclaimed Conservative who wants to "protect American values."
- The bulk of her candidacy appears to rely on saying the Pledge of Allegiance every day in the high school and teaching more about 9/11.
- She was very upfront about the need for better s*x ed in schools. She relayed a story from her daughter (a sophomore) about a guest speaker in her health class who essentially told the entire class that women were more likely to be r***d if they were not wearing a wedding ring.
- As a business owner with her husband of the Fannin farm property, she believes that Teays is doing a great job with their ag program.

The overall impression is that she is not prepared to be on the school board. The basis for her candidacy appears to be making kids in the high school say the Pledge every day. She did not seem to know what impact the Board has on the curriculum in the schools. She also has a page for her candidacy:

My name is Nichole Fannin, and I am running as a Write-In candidate for the Teays Valley School Board of Education.
