In 2025, there were 22,087 alcohol related crashes on Texas roadways, which resulted in 865 fatalities. The Commerce Police Department increased traffic enforcement throughout spring break to help keep our roadways safe and reduce injury and fatality crashes.
During this period of increased enforcement, officers are assigned to this initiative to work outside their regular shifts. Increasing the number of officers on our roadways. As a result of these efforts, officers stopped 69 vehicles. Of those sixty-nine vehicles, officers issued sixteen citations, sixty-seven warnings, and made two arrests.
Remember, drunk driving crashes are preventable 100% of the time. If you drink any amount of alcohol, do not get behind the wheel. Designate a sober driver, use a rideshare service or taxi, call a sober friend or family member, or use public transit. You can also just stay where you are until youβre sober.
