The Commerce Police Department is investigating recent burglaries reported in the 2200 block of Charity Street and the area of East Sterling Hart Drive and Harlow Drive.

The incidents occurred between August 28 and September 1, 2026. At this time, investigators have not confirmed that the incidents are connected. Investigators are reviewing the cases for possible similarities and are seeking information that may assist with the investigations.

Residents and businesses in these areas are asked to review security-camera footage for suspicious persons, vehicles, or activity during the following periods:

* Charity Street: August 28, 2026, between approximately 6:10 a.m. and 7:45 p.m.

* East Sterling Hart Drive/Harlow Drive: August 31, 2026, at approximately 7:15 p.m., through September 1, 2026, at approximately 8:58 a.m.

Anyone who observed suspicious activity or has relevant photographs or video footage is encouraged to contact the Commerce Police Department non-emergency number (903) 886 – 1139.

Residents are reminded to secure homes, vehicles, windows, and outbuildings; activate exterior lighting and security cameras when available; and promptly report suspicious activity. Do not confront suspicious individuals.
No additional information is being released at this time to protect the integrity of the investigations.

Additional arrest related to the July 27, 2026, shooting in the 900 block of Plum Street in Commerce. The investigation has been ongoing. Based on evidence obtained during this investigation, the Commerce Police Department sought and obtained multiple arrest warrants for Barbra Price on August 13, 2026, in connection with the shooting.

On the evening of August 13, 2026, the Commerce Police Department took Barbra Price into custody on four outstanding warrants. Mrs. Price was transported to Hunt County Jail and booked on outstanding warrants for burglary, aggravated robbery, and two counts of aggravated assault w/deadly weapon.

Additionally, Michael Winton, who was previously arrested in connection with this investigation, was served with an additional warrant for aggravated robbery at the Hunt County Jail.

I would like to thank all the officers, other agencies, the Commerce Fire Department, Hunt County AMR, and all parties involved in responding to and investigating this case for their hard work and dedication to protecting our community and pursuing justice for victims.

This investigation is ongoing.

COMMERCE POLICE DEPARTMENT TEAMS UP WITH TxDOT TO PREVENT DRUNK DRIVING CRASHES

Commerce, Texas— TxDOT's Labor Day impaired driving campaign reminds motorists of the deadly risks of impaired driving and urges them to drive sober and like a Texan: kind, courteous and safe.

During Labor Day Weekend last year, a person was killed by an impaired driver every three hours. Alcohol isn't the only risk. Cannabis, cold medicine, prescription drugs and any substance that affects judgment or motor function can make driving dangerous. Texans have better options: call a rideshare, take public transit, designate a sober driver or stay where you are. The safest plan is the one made before impairment begins.

This campaign aligns with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA)'s heightened law enforcement period to keep roads safe this summer. From August 14 through September 8, increased patrols will be pulling over impaired drivers across Texas to minimize DUI-related crashes, injuries and fatalities.

ARE YOU READY FOR THE UPCOMING HUNTING SEASONS?

The Commerce Police Department, along with the Commerce Fire Department, is hosting a Youth Hunter Education Course for students ages 9–17 who need to complete the state-required Hunter Education Certification Course before the upcoming dove and deer hunting seasons.

Date: August 22nd
Location: Commerce Police Department 1103 Sycamore Street, Commerce, Texas
Classroom: Emergency Operations Center (EOC)
Arrival Time: 8:45 AM
Class Ends: 5:00 PM

Students will participate in classroom instruction covering important hunting safety, responsibility, and ethical hunting practices. Lunch, snacks, and drinks will be provided.

Cost: $15.00 per student
Please bring exact change. We do not accept credit cards.

The $15.00 course fee includes:
Texas Hunter Education State Certification
Lunch
Snacks and drinks
Texas Parks and Wildlife course materials
Hunter Education course stickers
Additional Texas Parks and Wildlife educational materials

Students must attend the full 8 hours to receive credit and complete their Hunter Education certification.

August 2, 2026

July 27, 2026, at approximately 9 p.m., officers received a report of a robbery, burglary, and shooting in the 900 Block of Plum Street. Officers responded to the location and located a man with multiple gunshot wounds in the 1000 Block of Cedar Street. Commerce Fire and EMS assisted, and the man was transported for medical attention from the scene.

Commerce Police Department and Texas Rangers began an investigation and processed the scene. During this investigation, law enforcement learned that a male approached a residence, entered the residence, and began holding the occupants at gunpoint, demanding items. During this time, the man fired his weapon at the occupants. The occupants of the residence fired at the man who entered the residence, striking him. He then ran from the residence on foot.

Based on the investigation, the officer obtained arrest warrants for Michael L. Winton for Burglary of habitation with intent to commit a felony, two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, and unlawful possession of a fi***rm by a felon. Mr. Winton has been taken into custody for the above arrest warrants.

This investigation is ongoing.

July 28, 2026

July 28, 2026, at approximately 1023 AM, the Commerce Police Department received reports of an adult male exposing his ge****ls to others in a public place along Maple Street. Officers immediately responded to the area. At approximately 10:25 AM, Officers located a man matching the suspect's description in the immediate area. Officers began to interview the man while others began an investigation.

During the investigation, officers learned the man exposed his ge****ls to an adult female and two children.

Gerald Adams was taken into custody for indecent exposure, two counts of indecency with a child by exposure, and an outstanding warrant from Fannin County, Texas.

July 10, 2026

On July 10, 2026, at approximately 8:24 AM, the Commerce Police Department received a call reporting a vehicle stolen in the 800 block of Culver Street. The Caller advised that the theft had just occurred. The Commerce Police Department and East Texas A&M Police Department immediately responded to the area and began searching for the vehicle.

Law Enforcement located the vehicle at approximately 8:32 AM, and a vehicle pursuit occurred. The suspect evaded law enforcement in the vehicle, then fled on foot. The suspect was located and detained after a short foot pursuit.

No suspect information will be released as the suspect is a Juvenile.

I would like to thank each Officer and Detective involved in this incident, as their swift response enabled the victim's property to be quickly located, recovered, and a suspect to be identified.
