Through all preservation activities we will encourage all generations of the area to discover and embrace their great history and roots. We will also positively affect the image of Commerce City by accurately telling our heroic stories.

OUR MISSION…..


• To accurately collect, memorialize, preserve and maintain the rich physical history of the peo

ples and times of the Great City of Commerce City.
• The Society will work for the past, present and future boundaries of the City of Commerce City.
• The Society will establish and illustrate the history of the area, its aboriginal past, its exploration, settlement and development, its activities in peace and in war, and its growth in population, wealth, education, arts, science, agriculture, manufacturing, trade and transportation.
• The Society will preserve such materials and make them accessible to all who wish to examine or study them. Cooperate with officials to insure the preservation and accessibility of the records and archives of the City of Commerce City,
• The Society will seek to establish and maintain a museum for the protection, preservation and exhibition of all such materials.
• The Society will disseminate information to raise interest in the history of our area by publishing historical material in newspapers or elsewhere, by holding meetings, arranging lecturers, writing papers and holding discussions.
• The Society will encourage the preservation of historic buildings by marking those buildings, sites and trails.
• The Society will be involved in various fundraising activities through grant writing and special events.

Long time Commerce City resident, businessman, South Adams County firefighter and member of the Commerce City Historical Society, Harlow Leeper, passed away peacefully on February 26, 2026. He was 95 years old. We will miss him!
