This morning, our probationary members participated in a flashover simulation drill, gaining real exposure to fire behavior, heat conditions, and the warning signs that can mean the difference between getting out safely or not. This is controlled, high-level training designed to prepare them for the realities of firefighting.

They also completed an SCBA mask confidence drill, operating with limited visibility while relying on their equipment, training, and composure under pressure. These classes are built to push comfort levels and develop the confidence needed to perform in zero-visibility, high-stress environments.

If you’re looking for something that challenges you, builds discipline, and puts you in a position to make a real impact when it counts, consider volunteering with the Commack Fire Department today.

Commack firefighters have remained busy this week.
On Tuesday night, Commack was requested to East Northport for house fire. Company 2 worked as an additional engine under the direction of Assistant Chief Simoes.

Wednesday afternoon, Commack firefighters responded to a working house fire on Fern Drive. Engine Company 3 arrived within minutes, making an aggressive interior attack. Under the command of Chief of Department Paul Purrazzella, all companies operated on scene for approximately 2 hours, greatly limiting fire spread.

Thursday morning just before noon, Commack was alerted for a garbage truck on fire at the corner of Mall Drive and Moreland Road. Members extinguished a large garbage fire that had been dumped onto the road from the truck.

Early Friday morning at approximately 3:00AM, Commack firefighters responded to a motor vehicle collision with entrapment at the corner of Jericho Turnpike and East Deer Park Road. Members from Truck Company 1 and Engine Companies 2 and 3 freed an occupant that was heavily pinned within the vehicle.

Busy Friday Night for Commack Firefighters

At 9:23 PM on Friday, March 6, 2026, the Commack Fire Department was dispatched to a reported structure fire at 157 Cornell Drive. The caller reported the side of the house was on fire where the wires connected. The fire was determined to be extinguished prior to arrival; however, firefighters placed one line into operation to extinguish remaining fire and check for extension.

Companies 1, 2, 3, and 4 responded to the initial structure fire. While operating at the scene, about 20 minutes later the department received a call for a motor vehicle accident on the Sunken Meadow Parkway, with Companies 1 and 2 responding.

We would also like to thank the Smithtown Fire Department for responding as the automatic RIT to the Cornell Drive alarm.

Approximately 15 minutes later, units that responded to the motor vehicle accident — Companies 1 and 2 — along with Chief 32 and 33, were requested to assist the East Northport Fire Department with an additional ladder truck at the scene of a working house fire.
