We've got a bit of a problem here at the Library! There has been a mix-up in the receipt of our weekly copies of The Comfort News, and our permanent file of the local newspaper is missing a number of copies as a result. If anyone has any copies of the paper from June 8, 2026 until now, would you please bring them to Comfort Public Library for us to keep on file? Thanks so much--we appreciate everyone's help!!

It's September, and that means the 2026 Taste of Comfort is right around the corner!! Tickets are available NOW for $50 each; you can get yours at the Library during our normal business hours, or through Eventbrite (scan the QR code below) for a small convenience fee.

Our Silent Auction will be slightly different this year, since we will not have a Live Auction. However, due to popular demand we will have four trips available this year as Silent Auction items! We still need special things for the Silent Auction; they can be either single items or they could be grouped as a "basket". You can bring them to the Library during business hours.

In addition, our W**e Wall this year will add a touch of fun to the evening. You'll be able to show off your carnival skills by "ringing" a new favorite w**e in our W**e Ring Toss! But in order to offer this entertaining touch, we need bottles of w**e to use as targets!! We'll accept bottles of w**e valued at $25 or more; again, just bring them to the Library during business hours.

It should be a wonderful evening at Hermann Sons Hilltop Camp! We hope you'll join us, and we so appreciate your continued support of Comfort Public Library!!

BOOK BARN NO LONGER OPEN ON FRIDAYS
The Book Barn, the used book store managed and staffed by volunteers from the Friends of Comfort Public Library, is no longer able to be open on scheduled Fridays. While this is unfortunate, we feel it is the best decision for the Friends and will hopefully free up some time for our valuable volunteers. We will continue to be open every Saturday from 10 am until approximately 2 pm (longer if we have shoppers!) So come by and check us out this weekend—we’d love to see you!!

Local author Steve Denmark will be at Comfort Public Library this morning Saturday, August 29, at 10:30 am to talk about his new book, The Longhorn Reckoning. In his book, the year is 1861, and a series of seemingly small decisions sets events into motion that will echo across battlefields, river campaigns, frontier settlements, and the vast reaches of the American West. As the nation descends into Civil War, lives become intertw**ed in ways none of them could foresee. So I’m kind of obsessed with Jimothy, Seattle’s short-spined raccoon. In typical Amazon fashion they are already selling a book called “Jimothy is just Right” so I bought one for the Library and read it this morning during Wee Fun Friday. The book is delightful, and during Craft Time we made Jimothy pictures. It’s all fun all the time at CPL’s version of Story Time!!

If you like historical fiction or Westerns or both, then this book is for you! Author Steve Denmark will be at Comfort Public Library on Saturday, August 29 at 10:30 am to talk about his latest book, The Longhorn Reckoning. The story begins in Sabinal, Texas, in 1862. It is a Western that scatters across the frontier, where choices always have consequences and every loose strand is headed toward a reckoning. His characters are unforgettable, each with their own role and mission, and they will draw you into the heart of the mid-1800's west. Sorry—the date that the book barn will be closed is correct, but the day of the week is NOT. The Book Barn used book store will be closed this FRIDAY, August 14 due to lack of volunteers. However, it will be OPEN as usual on Saturday, August 15! So, on SATURDAY, come buy your next great read, then volunteer to help so that a) they don’t have to close on a day they’re supposed to be open; and b) the person who makes these posts won’t make the mistakes that we all know happen when I “assume”!

Due to a lack of volunteers, the Book Barn used book store will be CLOSED this Saturday, August 14.
In order to prevent future closures, please donate a small number of hours to the Friends of Comfort Public Library, who operate the Book Barn. A few hours makes a big difference!!

Focus groups for Texas Tech study about Flash Flood vulnerability and Risk Information Needs to be held at Comfort Public Library.
Two sessions are planned on Thursday, August 27; one at 10:00 am and one at 5:00 pm. Participation is voluntary and confidential, and participants will be mailed a $35 gift card after the sessions. Please see the attached flyer for more information:
