Yesterday, Comfort VFD responded with Brush 53 to assist on a grass and brush fire that grew to approximately 5 acres.

Comfort worked alongside Blanco County, Sisterdale, Bergheim, Alamo Springs, Tierra Linda, Stonewall and Fredericksburg during the response. Travis County STAR Flight also assisted from the air, providing water drops to support crews on the ground.

Calls like this are a strong reminder of how important mutual aid is. When a fire begins to grow, neighboring departments and agencies come together to bring the manpower, apparatus and support needed to help get it under control.

We’re proud of our volunteers who answered the call and grateful for everyone who assisted.

With the heat, dry vegetation and increased wildfire activity we’re seeing across Texas, we’ve been spending recent training nights focused on preparing our crews and equipment for wildland and brush fires.

That preparation goes beyond training at the station. Many of our volunteers have also completed TEEX wildland fire training and earned certifications designed to better prepare them for responding to these types of incidents.

At the station, that means continuing to get hands-on with our brush trucks, pumps, hose lines, water supply and the equipment we depend on when a fire moves off the road and into rough Hill Country terrain.

A few of these photos are from a brush fire we responded to a few weeks ago. It’s a good reminder of why the training matters. The skills we practice and the equipment we prepare have to work when the call comes in.

Conditions can change quickly. High temperatures, dry fuels, low humidity and wind can all contribute to fires starting more easily and spreading faster.

Please continue to be careful with anything that could create a spark around dry grass or vegetation. Our volunteers will keep training, learning and preparing so we’re ready when Comfort needs us.

Singing Water Vineyards has been showing up for Comfort VFD long before this tournament.

Earlier this year, their Bottles & Rockets shirt fundraiser donated 100% of the profits back to Comfort VFD. We’ve also had the privilege of being part of their annual July 3 celebration, helping keep their fireworks event safe for everyone who comes out to enjoy it.

Now they’re stepping up again as the Presenting Sponsor of our 1st Annual Comfort Fire Department Golf Tournament.

And if you haven’t been out to Singing Water, they’re one of the special places right here in our own backyard, a veteran-owned Hill Country winery with estate-grown grapes, great wine, food, live music and events throughout the year.

This is what community supporting community looks like.

Thank you, Singing Water Vineyards, for continuing to stand behind Comfort VFD and the community we serve.

This week, Comfort VFD members worked through engine evolutions and forcible entry training, practicing the skills it takes to get water where it needs to go quickly and safely, while also working on techniques for gaining access when doors or other barriers stand between us and an emergency.

These are the kinds of skills that have to become second nature before we ever need them on a real call.

A big thank you to our members who continue to give their time to train, improve and stay ready for our community.

Strong leadership is just as important on an emergency scene as the equipment we bring with us.

Members of Comfort VFD joined Kerrville Fire Department, Boerne Fire Department and FEMA for a multi-agency leadership class at the Kerrville Public Safety Facility.

When a major fire, flood, rescue or other emergency brings several agencies together, the relationships and coordination built through training like this make a real difference. Learning together before the call helps us communicate clearly, make better decisions and work as one team when it matters most.

Thank you to Kerrville Fire Department for hosting and including us. We are proud to keep learning, improving and preparing for the people who count on us.

We were proud to take part in Comfort ISD’s Back to School Resource Rally today.

From meeting families and handing out school supplies to serving up a little friendly competition on the mini golf course, it was a great day connecting with our community before the new school year begins.

Thank you to Comfort ISD , Love Kendall County Kids ,and everyone who helped make today’s event possible. We wish all of our students, teachers, and staff a safe and successful school year. See you around town!

🪜 Did you know? Over 500,000 people are treated for ladder-related injuries, and approximately 300 people lose their lives in ladder falls in the United States each year.

That’s why last week’s Comfort VFD training focused on one of the simplest-but most dangerous-tools: ground ladders.

Whether we’re climbing to rescue someone from an upper floor, accessing a roof during a fire, or helping during a rescue, every firefighter must know how to safely raise, climb, and work from a ladder. We train on these skills long before they’re ever needed on an emergency scene.

Unfortunately, ladder injuries don’t just happen to firefighters.

Many occur while doing everyday jobs around the house like cleaning gutters, trimming trees, painting, or putting up holiday decorations. As we get older, a fall from even a short height can result in serious injuries that can change a life in an instant.

Here are a few simple ways to stay safe:

🪜 Inspect your ladder before every use. Check for cracked rails, loose rungs, bent feet, or damaged locks.

🪜 Set it on firm, level ground. Never place a ladder on soft soil, rocks, or anything that could shift while you’re climbing.

🪜 Keep three points of contact at all times. That means two hands and one foot, or two feet and one hand should always be on the ladder. Climb facing the ladder and avoid carrying heavy tools in your hands.

🪜 Keep your belt buckle between the rails. If you have to lean to one side to reach something, climb down and move the ladder instead of overreaching.

🪜 Never stand on the top step or top rung. If you can’t safely reach what you’re working on, you’re using the wrong ladder or it’s in the wrong location.

🪜 If you’re unsure, ask for help. No household project is worth risking a trip to the emergency room.

We train because we want to come home safely after every call.

We share these reminders because we’d like you to do the same.

Stay safe, Comfort.
