Please make plans to attend our annual BBQ fundraiser at the De Leon High School Cafeteria this year. We will be serving brisket and all the sides. This year we will be having live music and an auction. If you're not able to attend but would still like to donate, there is a QR code you can scan to make a donation if you wish. We hope to see everyone there.

Good Morning Everyone!,

As you are waking up, drinking your coffee, traveling to work, or maybe just making your way around the City of Comanche, you may see city workers out exercising fire hydrants. This is a very important activity they are performing to benefit you and us.

During this time period you may see a large amount of water flowing from the hydrants or down the road and you may think there is a major leak or that is a lot of water being wasted.

Please allow me a second to explain the benefits of what they are doing. During the unfortunate event of a structure fire, we want to ensure that when we arrive at your residence that two things are known before we start unloading hose to extinguish your fire.

We want to make sure 1) that the hydrant works. They are testing this by the simple act of turning it on, making sure the flow is steady, and then turning if off making sure it stops appropriately. 2) While the water is flowing they will have a meter on the hydrant that will provide them with information on the flow rate. The flow rate is very important to us because it tells us how much water is capable of coming from that hydrant during a single minute so we know what assets we are able to use to extinguish your fire off that single hydrant. This lets us know if we need to look to for an additional hydrant and we will know by looking at a hydrant layout where they have all been serviced by the city the nearest appropriate hydrant to use.

So during this process we greatly appreciate your understanding and cooperation and know that this very necessary process is very important for all of us.

Thank you!

Texas A&M Forest Service has raised the Wildland Fire Preparedness Level to Level 2 as the potential for wildfire activity is expected to increase over the next several days, particularly in the High Plains, where high temperatures, low humidity, and dry vegetation is contributing to elevated risk.

Yesterday, our firefighters responded to 8 new wildfires that burned 24,774 acres.

We continue to monitor the situation and stand ready to respond to any requests for assistance.

Comanche VFD responded yesterday to an accident on CR 304. The call initially came in as an automatic crash notification from a phone. Meanwhile, sometimes these are false notifications, this time it wasn’t; there was a vehicle that had rolled on the county road. The occupants got out of the vehicle by themselves and were checked by EMS at the scene.

Yesterday, our firefighters did some physical exercise to get used to hard work while wearing SCBA; they played dodgeball, and when eliminated, they had to drag a 250-pound dummy and practice forcible entry.

We are proud to announce that six firefighters from the Comanche Fire Department have successfully completed their Firefighter I and Firefighter II training. Over the past 3 months, these firefighters have dedicated almost every Saturday to traveling to Granbury and have committed countless hours throughout the weeks in their free time to this training. As a fire department, we continually strive to provide our firefighters with the most comprehensive training possible. They will now pursue certification, and upon completion, three of them will be eligible to become certified instructors for internal and external training. We extend our gratitude to the Granbury Volunteer Fire Department and the instructors from several Hood County Fire departments for allowing our firefighters to participate in their academy.
