Help us help our partner agency- Stevens County 911 and other Dispatch agencies across the state.

911 is one of the most important public services available, but many people are still unsure about when to call, what information to provide or what happens after the call is made.

🔥As we begin to enter wildfire season burn bans will start to occur. A reminder that we have created a Public Information Map on the Stevens County website for easier understanding of the current burn ban status and where it is occuring.

By resolution Stevens County implements burn bans based off of current DNR burn bans. Stevens County is made up of the Highlands, Foothills and Kaniksu Fire Danger Rating Area. Currently rule burns are banned in the Highlands and Foothills area but are allowed in the Kaniksu area. This means the only fires that are allowed in the Highlands and Foothills area are campfires in designated pits and permitted burns.🔥

Well… that was a show, wasn’t it? Last night’s lightning storm gave us everything except popcorn. Between the thunder, the flashes, and those surprise gusts from the east, I personally found myself chasing down various airborne objects that definitely weren’t meant to fly.

As of this morning, about 1,200 customers across Stevens County are still without power. Power crews are out working as quickly and safely as possible to get everyone restored. If you’re one of the many waking up to a darker-than-usual Friday, hang in there.

Let's do a county ✔️ -in -let us know how you’re doing and how things looked where you are. And if you managed to catch any photos or videos of last night’s electrical extravaganza, feel free to share them. It helps us all stay connected and aware of what’s happening across the county.

Please check on neighbors who may need an extra hand today, and let’s take a moment to appreciate anything in our yards that managed to stay put.

Stay safe, stay patient — and if you find any of my lawn chairs, please send them home.

Hot, cold, rainy, muggy… and now we’re adding high winds and thunderstorms to the mix. Because why have one weather pattern when you can collect them all? 🌩️⛈️⚡️💨

Take a few minutes today to get storm-ready:
• Charge up your devices (this includes medical devices).
• Check your generators.
• Secure anything outside that might take flight and audition for a role in The Wizard of Oz.🌪️
• And of course, cross your fingers with us that we don’t end up dealing with any lightning-caused fires.🔥

The latest outlook from the Storm Prediction Center shows areas under a Marginal Risk (5% chance of severe weather) and a Slight Risk (15% chance). The timing of the greatest threat is included in the graphic. Main concern: damaging winds. Also on the guest list: large hail, frequent lightning, and very heavy downpours.

The lightning loop attached shows current storm activity. Keep in mind that strong to severe winds may arrive before the storms themselves or the first flashes of lightning.
Stay safe, stay weather-aware, and be prepared for additional severe weather updates such as watches and warnings. We’ll keep the info coming from the weather service—you keep those outdoor chairs on the ground.
