๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ’ผ Point of Personal Privilegeโ€ฆ purely for entertainment purposes!

A few months ago, my 6-year-old asked me who my boss was.

I explained that all 10 City Councilors are my bosses, but that I also answer to every citizen who lives in Columbus. By the look on her face, I could tell her little mind was absolutely blown. ๐Ÿคฏ

After a moment she simply replied, โ€œThatโ€™s a lot.โ€ ๐Ÿ˜ณ And then moved on to something much more important... probably hunting for her tablet. ๐Ÿ˜‚

Fast forward to this past Friday. I picked her up from camp early so we could be somewhere by 5:30, rushed back to the office, handed her a tablet, and gave her the classic working-parent speech:

โ€œMom has a deadline to meet. Please entertain yourself for just a little while longer.โ€ ๐Ÿ“ฑโฐ

I even attempted to explain why publishing the Council agenda by the deadline was important because lots of people would be waiting for it. As much as a 6-year-old can understand, anyway. ๐Ÿ˜…

Well, today on the ride home she suddenly asked, โ€œDid you make your deadline?โ€

Confused, I asked, โ€œWhat deadline?โ€

In the most sarcastic tone imaginable she replied, โ€œMom... the REALLY IMPORTANT ONE.โ€ ๐Ÿ™„๐Ÿ˜‚

It finally clicked that she was talking about the agenda from Friday.

I laughed and said, โ€œYes, I did. Thanks for checking.โ€

She let out a huge sigh of relief and said:

โ€œWell, Iโ€™m really glad you did because everyone in Columbus would've been super mad at you!โ€ ๐Ÿ˜ฎโ€๐Ÿ’จ๐Ÿคฃ

The pressure is real, folks. Apparently my performance evaluations now come from both the citizens of Columbus AND an upcoming second grader. ๐Ÿ’™

Be sure to take a look and stay informed about the items that will be discussed and considered by Council. ๐Ÿ›๏ธ๐Ÿ“„

๐ŸŒง๏ธ Wishing everyone a wonderful weekend! It looks like itโ€™s going to be a rainy one, so take advantage of the excuse to slow down, relax, and recharge. โ˜•๐Ÿ“š๐Ÿก

Trust usโ€”weโ€™ll be doing the same after this week! ๐Ÿ˜…๐Ÿ™Œ

๐Ÿ“ข The Draft Agenda for the June 2, 2026 Council Meeting is now available online! ๐Ÿ“„โœจ

We also want to remind citizens about an important opportunity to participate in the discussion. ๐Ÿ‘‡

๐Ÿ—ฃ๏ธ If an item is listed on 1st Reading, citizens are welcome to speak on that item during its discussion. There is no need to sign up for the Public Agenda to speak on a 1st Reading item.

Why does this matter? ๐Ÿค”

Speaking during the 1st Reading allows your comments to be heard while Council is actively discussing the item, rather than after the discussion has concluded. Your input becomes part of the conversation at the time decisions are being considered. ๐Ÿ’ฌ๐Ÿ›๏ธ

๐Ÿ“ Review the agenda and stay informed!

๐Ÿ“ข Clarification Regarding Ordinance Hearing Notices ๐Ÿ“ข

Today, we have received a high volume of calls and emails regarding social media posts related to the ordinance process. To help provide clarification:

๐Ÿ•• When a notice is published for the 1st Reading of an Ordinance, the notice lists the start time of the Regular Council Meeting, not the specific time the item will be called forward for discussion. However, the Public Hearing for the Taxpayer Bill of Rights does have a scheduled time of 6:00 p.m. for evening meetings.

๐Ÿ—ฃ๏ธ If Council is actively discussing another agenda item at 6:00 p.m. when the Taxpayer Bill of Rights Public Hearing is scheduled, that discussion may be paused so the Public Hearing can be addressed. Council can then return to the previous discussion afterward.

๐Ÿ“‹ The Taxpayer Bill of Rights is not a separate meeting, but rather an item included as part of the overall Council meeting agenda.

๐Ÿ™ We sincerely appreciate everyoneโ€™s involvement in local government and your patience as we work to keep our community informed and provide clarity when questions arise.

๐Ÿ›๏ธ The Clerk of Councilโ€™s Office is committed to serving our city with professionalism, care, and excellence each day. While response times may occasionally be delayed due to the demands of back-to-back meetings and post-meeting responsibilities, please know that we are doing our very best to assist every citizen while balancing our daily duties. โค๏ธ

There are some people you meet in this profession that instantly make an impact โ€” and Pam definitely does! ๐Ÿ’™

Pam Helton, Senior Member Services Consultant with GMA, is truly the BEST!! Always willing to help, always sharing her wealth of knowledge and experience, and constantly supporting city officials across Georgia with kindness and professionalism. Everything she does for city clerks in this state is nothing short of remarkable. ๐Ÿ‘โœจ

We are beyond thankful to have connected with her and spend time with her during the GMCA Board Retreat. People like Pam make this profession even more special! ๐Ÿ’›
