Join us Saturday, May 30th at 10am for our Summer Library Program Kick-Off featuring a FOAM PARTY in the parking lot and The Great Craft Excavation inside the library! Wear your bathing suit, bring sunscreen, and get ready to start a summer full of fun!

Then beginning next week, we are diving headfirst into a FULL summer of all things DINO with programs for kids, teens, and adults across the Columbus-Lowndes Public Library System! 🦕📚

🇺🇸 The Columbus-Lowndes Public Library System will be closed Saturday, May 23, and Monday, May 25, in observance of the Memorial Day holiday. We will reopen on Tuesday, May 26, at 9:00am.

As we head into the weekend, we pause to remember and honor the brave men and women who gave the ultimate sacrifice in service to our country.

We hope everyone has a safe and meaningful Memorial Day weekend. ❤️

Beginning Tuesday, June 16th, the Columbus-Lowndes Public Library System will begin a new Sensory Friendly Hour every Tuesday morning from 8:00am to 9:00am. 💙♾️

Over the years, libraries have changed a lot. While libraries were once known primarily as quiet spaces, today’s public libraries are often full of programs, activities, conversations, play areas, and community gatherings. We know that for some individuals and families with sensory sensitivities and Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), that can sometimes make visiting the library more difficult or overwhelming.

After conversations with local parents in our community, CLPLS will begin offering a quieter and more low-stimulation hour each Tuesday morning to help create a more comfortable and welcoming experience for all.

During Sensory Friendly Hour, sounds and overall noise levels throughout the library will be kept as calm as possible. While this hour is designed with sensory-sensitive individuals in mind, the library will remain open to the public during this time. We simply ask all visitors to help us maintain a calm and quiet environment.

This initiative will begin as a trial run as we continue exploring ways to better serve all members of our community. We are excited to see where this grows and hope to continue expanding sensory-friendly services and programming in the future.
