Veteran Sees Capitol After Half Century
This is an article about the Ohio Statehouse from the Columbus Dispatch.

With 50 years to the day intervening since his preceding visit, W. J. Ham, an old soldier from Rio Grande, Ohio, came to the statehouse Wednesday and was surprised to find that there had been little if any change in the general appearance of the main part of the structure.

“When I was here before I was but a lad of 14 years and had just enlisted in the army,” said Ham at the governor’s office. “I had joined Co. F, Second Ohio Heavy artillery, and got in by passing myself off as 18 years of age. I was large for my years, being five feet eight inches tall then. Our regiment was brought to Columbus after being mustered in. The first night in Columbus I slept at the statehouse.”

Mr. Ham was accompanied by his wife on the occasion of his present visit.
