Bexley’s neighborhood schools are the center of a stable, close knit community. Students benefit from the small class sizes that permit personal attention and foster academic excellence. A high level of community involvement characterizes the Bexley school system, which receives considerable support from the nonprofit Bexley Education Foundation. Financial ratings institutions praise Bexley’s sound financial operations, solid voter history and conservative fiscal management. Educating the “whole child” is a core value in Bexley, with the school district invested in programs that enhance the overall wellness of school community members. Unlike most public schools, Bexley has free, all-day kindergarten and foreign language instruction in the elementary grades. Certified professionals teach visual and performing arts throughout the K-12 curriculum. A high percentage of students are involved in extracurricular activities with 75 percent of high school and middle school students participating in at least one athletic activity. U.S. News & World Report and Newsweek magazines have recognized Bexley High School as one of the top public high schools in the country.

☕ Members of the Bexley Board of Education are inviting residents to join them for informal Community Conversations, beginning Monday, Oct. 5 at Bexley’s Starbucks.

Unlike regular Board meetings, these conversations will have no set agenda or formal presentations. Residents are welcome to stop by, meet Board members, ask questions, and share their thoughts about the facilities upgrade plan, Issue 5, or other topics important to them.

🧹💙 In recognition of National Custodial Workers Recognition Day, Dr. Katie Nowak, district leaders, and all Bexley City Schools staff extend their appreciation to our incredible custodial and maintenance team!!

Their hard work and dedication keep our schools clean, safe, and welcoming for students and staff every day. Much of what they do happens behind the scenes, but their impact is felt throughout every building.

🛣️ What’s next for students with IEPs and 504s? Bexley City Schools invites families to What’s Next Bexley?, a resource fair focused on navigating grade-level moves and post-secondary transitions from PreK–12 and beyond.

Families will have the opportunity to connect with school and community experts, ask questions, and explore resources to support students as they transition between grades, buildings, and beyond graduation.

🎓 The Bexley Education Foundation is excited to participate in the WINGS student pre-apprenticeship program at Bexley High School and welcomes two interns this semester, Lucy Mattes and Carter Murray!

Lucy is a BHS junior, Girls Tennis Team member, and member of the Future Healthcare Professionals Club.

Carter is also a BHS junior and is involved with the Torch staff and Vocal Ensemble.

We’re excited to have Lucy and Carter working with the Foundation this semester and look forward to the experiences and skills they’ll gain through WINGS!

🎨 Bexley High School students in Dr. Mabi Ponce De Leon’s AP Art History and AP Art & Design classes recently took their learning beyond the classroom with a visit to Capital University’s Schumacher Gallery!

Students explored a variety of artistic traditions, from Albrecht Dürer prints to African and Northwest Coast art, while examining materials, techniques, textures, and the deeper meanings behind the works.

For AP Art & Design students, the visit also inspired their own projects as they considered how professional artists use different techniques to bring ideas to life.

Thank you to Dr. Ponce De Leon for creating an opportunity for students to experience the art they study up close and connect classroom lessons with resources right here in the community! 🎨

🏟️ Bexley City Schools is exploring an opportunity to add grass practice fields on district-owned land along North Cassady Avenue.

The district is working with a local contractor to assess the cost of grading and seeding the property for up to two practice fields and to evaluate potential fencing. The additional space could help balance practice schedules for outdoor athletic teams and allow more student-athletes to practice at reasonable times rather than having some practices extend until 9 p.m. or later.

Pending the assessment and projected costs, the district hopes to have the fields available for the Fall 2027 sports season.
