Thank you to everyone who joined us for the Great Southeast Pollinator Census!

We are so grateful to our community members who took time to slow down, observe, count, and learn more about the pollinators all around us.

Citizen science is about more than collecting data — it gives people of all ages a chance to practice real science, build observation skills, discover the incredible diversity in our own backyards, and become more connected to the natural world.

Every bee watched, butterfly spotted, flower explored, and conversation shared helps build a community that notices and cares about the small creatures that play such an important role in our environment.

A special shoutout to Columbus State University’s Day of Service volunteers for spending part of the day with us and supporting work on an exciting new exhibit coming soon to Oxbow! We are incredibly appreciative of the time, energy, and helping hands they contributed.

You may not always see them, but you can definitely hear them!

Swamp cicadas are one of the many voices that make up the soundtrack of summer. Their loud, rattling sound can be heard around wooded and swampy habitats.

Next time you are visiting Oxbow, take a moment to listen, although we don't think you can visit without hearing them. They are quite vocal :)

To learn more about swamp cicadas, including their song and the sounds of insects, check out this website:

Enjoy viewing tiny treasures at Oxbow this week. The Hairy Cluster-vine (Jacquemontia tamnifolia) is a wildflower, found climbing in fields providing a lovely pop of blue to our summers. If you take a walk on the Walt & Frank Chambers Birding Trail you can find this and other late summer pollinators.
