My ‘why’ given to The Republic on running that was unceremoniously trimmed in the actual article:
"I want to stress the importance of learning about local government, to attend meetings concerning issues you care about, and to make your voice heard. Since the 2023 municipal election, I’ve prioritized educating myself on the various functions of city and county government, attended a few dozen meetings, gave public comments, and spoke directly with our elected officials. I choose to do all of this because I can, in service of the people that cannot. If elected, I will continue to echo community concerns about animal rights, county parental leave, mental health, the opioid crisis, public transportation, and affordable housing." - of Zack Patchett
