Polk County Cooperative Extension Empowering People. Providing solutions.

Our Mission

North Carolina Cooperative Extension partners with communities to deliver education and technology that enrich the lives, land and economy of North Carolinians. La Extensión Cooperativa de Carolina del Norte se asocia con las comunidades para ofrecer educación y tecnología que enriquecen la vida de los habitantes, la tierra y la economía de Carolina del Norte. Who we are

Since 1916 T

he North Carolina Cooperative Extension Service has been trying to improve the quality of life for the people of Polk County. Whether it is money-saving consumer educational programs or improved cultural practices for farmers and gardeners, the outcome is the same, to help people help themselves. County Extension Agents work on educational programs and projects that address the needs of the citizens to whom they serve. Extension faculty in the countries rely on numerous volunteers who help identify problems, resources needed and help organize many of the activities. Cooperative Extension is an integral part of the land-grant university system which offers a threefold program of resident instruction, research and outreach. Extension’s outreach can be found in all 100 counties and with the Eastern Band of the Cherokee Indians in North Carolina. We are county agents, professors, scientists and volunteers working together to help make agriculture profitable and to assist communities across the state to remain viable.

Stretching your SNAP benefits doesn’t have to be a struggle! 🛒

With a few smart moves, you can fill your cart with healthy, delicious meals without breaking the bank. Here are 3 quick tips for your next grocery run:

🍲Go for store brands: Skip the big names and reach for the "generic" or store-brand versions. They usually have the exact same ingredients but cost way less.

🫘Buy staples in bulk: Stock up on rice, dried beans, and oats. They are filling, shelf-stable and cost much less per serving than pre-packaged meals.

📱Download Store Apps: Clip digital coupons before you go and check the weekly circulars to plan your meals around what’s on sale.
