Ever wonder what it’s like to be an Immunization Nurse at FCPH?

Wonder no more! We tagged along with our Nurse Amy to learn what a “typical” day looks like in our clinics!

She starts the day by checking the temperature on vaccine storage to prevent waste (1) before looking at patient records (2), prepping their vaccine (3, 4) and printing off any relevant paperwork (5) before welcoming them in (6)!

Should our residents need information given in a different language, we have a nifty Martii cart to connect our residents with a translator (7). We also have guidance sheets printed in multiple different languages (8)!

Amy repeats these processes throughout the day while coordinating with other members of the team to make sure appointments happen on-time and go smoothly (9)!

Huge thanks to Nurse Amy and the team for letting us see how our clinics work! If you or your loved ones need to schedule an appointment, go to https://myfcph.org/vaccines/

Let's take a moment to call our shots, all 4,566 of them!

Our Immunization nurses administered 4,566 shots in 2025! And the numbers don't lie, because our nurses are out in the county protecting all of our residents by keeping them safe from vaccine preventable diseases.

May is Mental Health Awareness Month!

We’d like to feature the great work of Franklin County Su***de Prevention Coalition, which helps prevent su***de and brings hope and support to those affected by su***de.

FCPH has multiple staff members in the coalition, and currently we have two staff members in leadership roles: Our very own Sierra and Jasmine!

Jasmine, who serves as the Education Action Team Chair, said serving on the coalition has been a wonderful experience.

“It has been restorative to volunteer with the Franklin County Su***de Prevention Coalition as both a Question, Persuade, Refer (QPR) Training Instructor and chair,” she said. “Together, our programs hosted 3 QPR trainings and have connected community members and local agencies to mental health and su***de prevention resources and services,” she added.

Jasmine also said the coalition is an active partner within several of the our Community Health Action Teams (CHATs).

To the coalition and all of our staff members who serve in it, we say thank you for all that you do!

* If you’re in crisis, call or text the Su***de and Crisis Lifeline at 988.

When you dive in make sure you're thrivin' by being safe!

With many pools opening up in Franklin County, remember the following tips to keep you and your loved ones safe:

- No matter your ability, it's always good to swim with a buddy and in areas supervised by lifeguards.

- Pay constant attention to your kids if they're in the water and never leave them unattended if they're near it.

- Have life jackets, reaching/throwing equipment and other first aid equipment on-hand in case of emergency.

* Dolphins, Michael Phelps and Taylor Swift are not guaranteed to be at Franklin County pools, but stranger things have happened.

YOU JUST GOT TICK ROLLED!

May is Lyme disease awareness month! We’ve seen increases in Lyme disease here in Franklin County the past few years, so it’s important stay safe out there and know the rules just like Rick Astley (not Tick Astley)!

You can prevent tick bites by: Using EPA approved insect repellent, wearing long-sleeve shirts/long jeans tucked into your socks/shoes that cover the entire foot, showering and checking for ticks right after being in grassy, brushy or wooded areas. If you find a tick attached, remember to remove it right away! Quick removal dramatically lowers the odds that a disease will be transmitted.

For all of the amazing things our nurses do, it truly takes a team to make it happen! Every person is important, especially our staff in support positions!

This week, we wanted to feature our very own Lisa, the friendly person you often see at the front desk of our nursing clinic.

Lisa serves as a Immunization & School Health program Administrative Assistant. She’s a dedicated partner to our IZ nurses and a champion of equity and inclusion for all of our patients.

While supporting our team of nurses and managing internal and external clinic operations/engagements, she ensures community safety though vaccine protection and customer care.

She's spent more than 10 years in healthcare across holistic and behavioral health. She's stayed in healthcare administration because of her love for serving others with an open mind and heart. Her greatest joy is the community she serves at FCPH, especially the kids she gets to interact with daily. For Lisa, her job is all about community protection, kindness and ensuring that every individual she engages with feels seen and supported.

Outside of the clinic, Lisa loves being a devoted fur mom to her dog Bryn, loyal Manchester City fan, bold experimental cook and self-proclaimed connoisseur of the occasional true crime and trash-television binge. If she’s not at home gardening, collecting records or trying out new recipes, you’ll find her getting her steps exploring outside or at her “happy place” Studio35 catching a movie!

Thanks for all you do Lisa!

Community Alert!

We have received reports of an increase in suspected overdoses in the county over the last few days. The substances related to the reported overdoses have varied, but many are suspected to be related to co***ne use. We encourage everyone to take precautions and stay safe this weekend!

Remember these helpful tips:

- If you suspect someone is overdosing, call 911 or get the person experiencing an overdose to the nearest ER immediately.

- Never use alone so that someone can help in case of overdose.

- Know the signs of overdose including - euphoria, mental and physical sharpness, chest and stomach pain, changes in heartrate, rapid breathing, increase in body temperature, nausea and vomiting and twitching and convulsions.

- Keep Narcan on-hand and make sure you know how to use it, although it is not effective in reversing a co***ne related overdose, it can help if drugs have been mixed with fentanyl or other opiates.
