The City of Columbus is seeking public feedback on Zone In Phase II, the next step in modernizing our 70-year-old zoning code.

The draft covers more than 70,000 parcels, about 41% of the city. It focuses on additional mixed-use corridors, industrial and warehouse districts, and major business and institutional campuses. It would also open the door for more housing, increasing the capacity for new homes to 119,000 over the next 10 years, up from 13,000. The proposal will create clearer zoning rules and support jobs and investment, too.

I sat down with some of our local housing experts Wednesday to talk about Zone In Phase 2. The focus is on unlocking the potential growth along our city’s mixed-use corridors, industrial and warehouse areas, and near business campuses, hospitals, universities, and other major job centers. If we do that, we can grow the number of new homes we’re projecting from 13,000 up to 119,000 over the next ten years. Columbus Department of Development
