🚨 MISSING PERSON ALERT – COMMUNITY ASSISTANCE NEEDED 🚨

The men and women of the Columbus Police Department are asking for the public’s help in locating Levenia Alexander, an 86-year-old Black female who was last seen approximately an hour and a half ago in the area of 1424 5th Avenue North, Columbus, Mississippi.

Mrs. Alexander suffers from dementia, and there is concern for her safety and well-being.

Columbus Police Officers Caught Out of Uniform

Yesterday was Denim Day, and the Columbus Police Department is standing in support of survivors of sexual assault.

We’ve stepped out of our standard uniform and into denim for one day to send a clear message: we stand with you.

Sexual assault is one of the most devastating crimes a person can experience. To every survivor, know this: you are heard, you are supported, and you are not alone.

This badge isn’t just about enforcement. It’s about protection, compassion, and standing up for those who need it most.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Date: April 24, 2026

On April 23, 2026, officers with the Columbus Police Department were in the area of 19th Street and 7th Avenue North when they observed a black male collapsed in the roadway. Officers immediately approached the individual and determined he had sustained a gunshot wound. Emergency Medical Services were requested through E-911, and officers began rendering aid.
The victim has been identified as 15-year-old Messiah Harmon. He was initially transported to Baptist Memorial Hospital for treatment. Due to the severity of his injuries, Harmon was subsequently airlifted to a nearby hospital, where he remains in critical condition.
This incident remains under active investigation, and no additional details are available at this time.
We are deeply concerned by yet another act of gun violence affecting a young member of our community. Incidents like this are a stark reminder of the devastating impact gun violence continues to have on families and neighborhoods. We urge anyone with information to come forward so we can bring those responsible to justice.
