We love connecting with our community, but we’ve got a few house rules to keep things runn

ing smoothly. Break them, and you’ll get two friendly warnings—but after the third, you might find yourself in Facebook timeout.

1. Keep it on topic: Please don’t tag us in non-CPD events or news as it disrupts and clogs our notifications/feed.
2. Don’t hog the feed: Please limit super long or excessive comments that clog things up in addition to unnecessary tagging.
3. Keep it classy: No accusations or spreading false info. No threats: Let’s keep the peace—no threats of violence against anyone.
6. Spam: Just no. Thanks for helping us keep this page focused on what matters most: our community!

Thank you to everyone who joined today’s Firearm Safety Lunch & Learn hosted by the Regional Firearm Safety Committee. Participants learned about responsible gun ownership and safe firearm storage. They also received cable locks and gun lock boxes to help keep fi****ms secure.

A special thank you to Sheriff Heath Taylor and Sgt. Darryl Powell for leading the firearm safety portion of the program, and to the East Alabama Board of Realtors for opening their doors and hosting today’s event.

The Regional Firearm Safety Committee is a partnership between several organizations, including Piedmont Columbus Regional, , Muscogee County Sheriff’s Office, Cure Violence & Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Chattahoochee Valley. We all work together to promote firearm safety education throughout our community.

The Columbus City Council recently approved a temporary curfew ordinance for unsupervised minors in Uptown Columbus.

In this video, Chief Stoney Mathis explains what the ordinance means and what parents and guardians need to know moving forward.

The ordinance applies only to Uptown Columbus and is scheduled to take effect 10 days after being signed by Mayor Skip Henderson. It will remain in effect through September 30, 2026, unless extended by City Council.

Appreciate the shoutout, Powder Springs PD 💙 We look forward to the Georgia Police and Fire Games each year because it’s a great chance for first responders from across the state to compete and have a little fun along the way.

See y’all next year…after everybody locates the heating pad they swore they didn’t need. 😅

🥇🚔🏆 CHAT!!! WE CAME, WE COMPETED, WE SWEATED AND WE DIDN’T BRING HOME A MEDAL. 🏆🚔🥇

Listen, before y’all start typing, YEESSSS, we came up a little short at the Georgia Police and Fire Games😅

But here’s the thing, while we may not have made it onto the podium, Team Police as a whole was out there collecting gold medals like they were Pokémon cards. So we’re still counting it as a win for the badge! 👮🏽‍♂️🥇

We want to give a huge shoutout to some incredible competitors who brought their A-game:
👏Columbus Georgia Police Department
👏 Cherokee County Fire & Emergency Services
👏 Decatur Fire Department
👏Calhoun Fire Department

Y’all pushed us, humbled us, and reminded us that maybe we should spend a little more time training and a little less time hanging out around the snack table. 😂

Most importantly, we want to send our thoughts and well wishes to the officer from Columbus PD who was injured during the competition. We hope you’re getting plenty of rest and wish you a speedy and full recovery. 💙

At the end of the day, events like these are bigger than medals. They’re about camaraderie, competition, and bringing first responders together from across Georgia.

We’ll be back next year, a little wiser, a little faster, and hopefully with less sore muscles. 😭💪
