After calls for a gas tax holiday from both major party gubernatorial candidates, the Ohio General Assembly gave approval to legislation temporarily reducing the state’s motor fuel tax for 90 days while using General Revenue Fund dollars to replace revenue that otherwise would have supported state and local transportation needs.

Day Two of the OML Annual Conference is underway!

We kicked off the morning with a focus on the legislative issues shaping Ohio’s cities and villages, including a legislative panel featuring Sen. Louis Blessing, Sen. Bill DeMora, and Rep. Brian Lorenz.

A Springfield native and junior at The Ohio State University, Monica is studying Political Science and International Studies. Through our partnership with the John Glenn College of Public Affairs, she’ll gain hands-on experience with the issues facing Ohio’s cities and villages and the legislative process.

OML Executive Director Kent Scarrett and Mount Vernon Mayor Matt Starr, who is also an OML Board Member, recently were on WOSU Public Media’s All Sides with Amy Juravich to discuss the vital role municipalities play in Ohio, the importance of a strong state-local government relationship, and the revenue streams that support essential local services. Kent was joined in the studio by Ohio Townships Association Executive Director Kyle Brooks, who spoke about their role.

The Ohio Department of Development announced $14 million in grants to support the creation of workforce housing through the second round of the Residential Economic Development District (REDD) program.
