Creative Math: 3rd graders practice multiplication using arrays - groupings of objects in rows and columns. The classroom is transformed into a bakery, where everyone uses baking skills to make arrays with cookie cereal. They were then able to draw the array on paper to solve equations...and have a sweet treat to celebrate their learning!

Bodies A students learn about careers in emergency medical services with Dawson and Dawson. Activities include practicing clinical skills used in emergency care, like IV insertion and wound dressing. Thanks to the Dawsons for sharing their time and expertise with Metro students!

Career exploration is more meaningful when students interact with professionals and practice relevant skills. We're grateful to Dr. Tarek Hammad from for supporting the next generation of healthcare professionals by sharing insights from his personal training and experiences. Bodies B students learned about the skills and responsibilities associated with dentistry and how it combines biomedical science, technical precision, critical thinking, patient communication and teamwork.

Creative Collaborations: The Musical Engineering class is working on the sound for animation created by a student from the Columbus College of Art & Design - proving there's plenty of room for artistic talent in STEM school environments!

Caring for the Environment: Metro Elementary’s Exploring Our Environment Club built custom "bug hotels" to support local wildlife. By gathering natural materials from the playground and repurposing recycled goods, they created spaces for native insects to live and lay eggs.

Immersive Learning + Real-World Problem Solving = Math at Metro! Algebra 1 students stepped into the world of aviation through PRISMS VR, exploring the question: How can an airline predict whether it has enough money to maintain all of its planes each month?

Students used multiplication, variables, equations in standard form, intercepts, and graphs to model an airline’s monthly maintenance budget and determine which combinations of short- and long-haul planes could fit within a fixed budget. Instead of just solving equations on paper, students interacted with a real-world scenario to apply learning.

Bodies Pathway students connect classroom learning to real human anatomy and healthcare through visits to the OSU Cadaver Lab and Lifeline of Ohio. They saw first hand how donors can give hope to families and learned that healthcare is not just about clinical facts - it's about “the people behind it” and respecting the dignity of every individual. Real World Skill Building: HBS students get hands-on practice with thermometers, blood pressure sphygmomanometer, pulse oximeters, and stethoscopes and learn how even small details can change a reading. Most importantly, they are connecting accurate measurements to real patient care and experiencing why healthcare professionals need both knowledge and skill.
