It is the only museum dedicated solely to celebrating the achievements of women in the visual, performing and literary arts by housing, exhibiting, preserving and researching art by women. The permanent collection consists of more than 4,500 works in a wide range of styles and media -- from Renaissance paintings to modern photographs and sculptures.

Our organization was proud to select Andrea Kostyal as one of the 2026 Honored Artists recently at our luncheon in Jackson. Many of the attendees drove downtown to see this incredible mural!

Downtown Jackson Partners has unveiled a new mural that commemorates the 200-year-old history of the Episcopal Diocese of Mississippi for its Alley Gallery art initiative, which seeks to use art to activate underused spaces to help revitalize downtown Jackson.

We had a beautiful time celebrating extraordinary women artists of Mississippi! ✨

Last week, the Mississippi State Committee of the National Museum of Women in the Arts (MSCNMWA) joined together at The Country Club of Jackson for the 2026 Annual Honored Artist Luncheon. The event honored this year’s recipients: Eden Brent of Greenville, Andrea Kostyal of Hattiesburg, and Ellen Ellis Lee of Ocean Springs. These women have contributed work towards enriching the cultural landscape and range of our state.

Thank you to The Right Reverend Dorothy Sanders Wells, Bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of Mississippi for giving our invocation. We also thank and appreciate the presence of our guest Grace Dewitt, the National Museum of Women in the Art’s National and International Outreach Programs Associate. Thank you to The Country Club of Jackson MS for hosting us!

A big thank you to everyone who celebrated with us, whether near or far! It is a joy to celebrate the achievements and impact of women artists across Mississippi. Events like these emphasize the importance of recognizing, preserving, and championing women in the arts.

It's that time of year, so Save the Date!

On August 27, 2026, the Mississippi State Committee of the National Museum of Women in the Arts is hosting its Annual Honored Artist Luncheon at The Country Club of Jackson.

Committee President Cheryl Thornhill will welcome visitors to the occasion. Grace Dewitt, a representative from the National Museum of Women in the Arts, is flying in from D.C. as this year’s special guest.

The 2026 Honored Artists are Eden Brent of Greenville, Andrea Kostyal of Hattiesburg, and Ellen Ellis Lee of Ocean Springs.

The luncheon brings recognition to the work of distinguished women artists across Mississippi as treasures, celebrating their achievements and lasting contributions. The organization focuses on advancing the mission of the National Museum of Women in the Arts to champion women artists.

This event is RSVP only, with tickets being $35 per guest. Registration can be completed online at mscnmwa.org.

On March 14, 2026, the MSC NMWA held the Spring Artist Showcase Closing Reception. Works were displayed in the Arts Center of Mississippi in Downtown Jackson, MS. This annual event is held to highlight members of the organization during International Women’s Month.

Winners awarded in the showcase include Mary Hardy, Sadako Lewis, Michaela Baldwin, Betty Press, Claudia "Ka" Cartee, and Mary Louise Porter who received the Grand Prize. Congratulations! 🥳

Thank you to this year's juror, Annette Trefzer of Bozarts Gallery in Happy Valley, MS. We also thank Turner Martin, the manager of the Arts Center of Mississippi and overseer of this installation. Lastly, a big and special thanks to all artists who participated!
