April 23, 2013 marks the 105th birthday of the U.S. Army Reserve. Created in 1908 to establish a Reserve Corps of medical officers it later expanded. Since that time the men and women of the Army Reserve have been called to serve in World Wars, various conflicts, humanitarian efforts and have included people such as Teddy Roosevelt. Jr., Jimmy Doolittle, and Ronald Reagan. Today, members of the Army Reserve are students and doctors, firemen and senators, pastors, congressmen and computer technicians. They all have something in common—the desire to serve their country, and the knowledge that the skills they learn improve not only their lives but those of their family and the nation.
