🏅 2026 Young Hero Award Recipient 🏅

During the 2026 Michigan Public Safety Telecommunications Conference in Muskegon, Michigan NENA proudly recognized Tucker Abdul-Khaaliq with the 2026 Young Hero Award.

Last summer at Lake Lansing, Tucker demonstrated remarkable courage and composure during a frightening situation involving his younger sister and several others who had drifted far from shore on a raft. Remaining calm under pressure, Tucker called 9-1-1 and provided critical information to dispatchers while staying on the line until help arrived. Thanks to his quick thinking and ability to clearly communicate details, responders were able to safely launch a boat and bring everyone back to shore safely.

Michigan NENA would also like to recognize Ingham County 911 Telecommunicator Brittnei Torgerson, whose professionalism and calm guidance during the call helped ensure a successful outcome.

This award is proudly sponsored by Peninsula Fiber Network (PFN), whose continued support helps Michigan NENA recognize extraordinary individuals and highlight the importance of public safety communications across our state.

Tucker’s actions are a powerful reminder that courage has no age, and that staying calm in an emergency can truly make a difference. Congratulations, Tucker, on this well-deserved recognition! 💙❤️
