On Oct. 5, Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) Administrator Tom Engels announced the largest federal investment in the Maternal, Infant, and Early Childhood Home Visiting (MIECHV) Program’s history at a roundtable session hosted by Nationwide Children's Hospital leaders. More than $500 million in federal funds will support the MIECHV at the national level. Ohio will receive more than $13 million to help parents and children across the state.
During the visit, Administrator Engels, Senator Jon Husted, and Rep. Mike Careymet with leaders from the Ohio Department of Children and Youth and Nationwide Children’s Hospital’s Center for Family Safety and Healing and heard from home visitors and families participating in Healthy Families America and Nurse-Family Partnership.
MIECHV supports evidence-based home visiting services in all 50 states, D.C., and five territories that improve maternal and child health, promote healthy child development, and connect families with the support they need during pregnancy and early childhood. Last year, MIECHV provided more than one million home visits to more than 158,000 parents and children nationwide — the most home visits in the program’s history. Last year, 24,000 of those home visits were provided to nearly 2,300 families in 27 counties in Ohio.
