Ohio Statehouse The Ohio Statehouse has housed state government since 1857. This magnificent Greek Revival structure was started in 1839 and completed in 1861.

As a legislative government agency of the State of Ohio, the Capitol Square Review and Advisory Board (CSRAB) is responsible for maintaining the historic character of the Ohio Statehouse and Capitol Square while providing for the health, safety, and convenience of those who work in and visit the complex. The mission of the CSRAB is to facilitate the operation of state government, preserve the hist

orical integrity of the Capitol Square Complex, and educate visitors about the history of Ohio and civics. As the administrator of all Ohio Statehouse social media platform sites, the CSRAB has established the following posting guidelines for all Ohio Statehouse and CSRAB branded social media platform sites:

Ohio Statehouse and CSRAB social media sites are limited public forums and are intended to serve first and foremost as informational resources to the public. The CSRAB welcomes public comments on its social media pages; however, user-generated comments must adhere to this policy and are subject to monitoring. Comments may be rejected or removed (if possible) when the content:

• is off-subject or out of context
• contains slanderous, libelous, malicious, vulgar, abusive, or profane language
• is threatening, harassing, or discriminatory and/or promotes, fosters, or perpetuates discrimination on the basis of race, creed, color, age, religion, gender, marital status, status with regard to public assistance, national origin, physical or mental disability, or sexual orientation
• contains obscenity or sexually explicit material
• incites or promotes violence
• contains information that reasonably could compromise the safety or security of any individual, the public, or public systems
• encourages illegal activity
• promotes or opposes any political party, political campaign, candidate, ballot proposition, or active legislative action
• contains personal identifying information or sensitive personal information such as an address, phone number, or social security number
• advertises or promotes a commercial product or service, or any entity or individual
• contains spam, duplicative posts, or promotional announcements
• breaches any law, confidentiality, or copyright

In collaboration with the Ohio Statehouse, join the ODNR Division of Geological Survey for a day dedicated to Ohio fossils. We’ll “Unearth a Story” starting by gathering in the Statehouse Atrium, where visitors can engage with numerous activities related to life in ancient Ohio. Then, a guided tour will examine the vast array of fossils that make up the building stones of Ohio's capitol. This free event is sure to be a favorite for anyone interested in Ohio's cultural and natural history

In honor of Memorial Day, Governor Mike DeWine has ordered that the flags of the United States and the state of Ohio to be flown at half-staff upon all public buildings and grounds throughout the state of Ohio from 12:01 a.m. until noon on May 25, 2026.

A Dark-eyed Junco was spotted in April near the monument, “These Are My Jewels,” on the northwest side of Capitol Square. Juncos have not been seen recently. This one was probably migrating toward Lake Erie and Canada.
