We greatly appreciate your patience and support as we work through all the challenges that COVID-19 has brought all of us both personally and professionally. We are contacting you to inform you that our planned 2020 In-Person State Conference scheduled for August 31-September 3, will now be held completely virtually.

This decision was not made without much trepidation and was decided after much discussion between the OWEA Executive Committee, OWEA staff and legal counsel. It is not what any of us had planned but what is necessary in the current situation. The challenges of providing safe training to our Membership while holding a large in-person Conference simply made this large in person event impossible.

Please understand OWEA is working diligently to evaluate the impacts this has on the Membership and the Organization. OWEA is also working to establish alternative smaller single-day workshops and Virtual Training opportunities to allow members to earn required Contact Hours and Professional Development Hours. We will continue to provide routine updates to Members on next steps that OWEA will be embarking on to continue to be the trusted and sustainable Organization you rely on.

While we are disappointed that we won’t be seeing each other in person, we are excited about our virtual conference. This on demand option will offer you contact hours from the comfort of your home or office Sept 9-23 when it best fits YOUR schedule. We will still have informative speakers and exhibitors that will be bring you the latest in products and services.

Stay tuned for registration to open for our this exciting virtual option!

As Americans, the Ohio Water Environment Association mourns and condemns the senseless and tragic killings of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor and Ahmaud Arbery along with many others in our Black communities.

As an association of water professionals dedicated to protecting our most precious resource of water, we pledge the following:

1. We will engage in uncomfortable conversations that bring issues of racism, implicit bias and bigotry to the forefront.

2. We recognize that communities of color and lower socioeconomic status have been the most heavily affected by pollution, lack of funding and other issues that plague our water environment.

3. We will work to transform systems of inequality both in the wastewater sector and in our communities.

4. We will continue to treat all of our members and the communities they serve equally.

5. We will work towards aiding in creating a more diverse sector of water professionals who represent and look more like the communities they serve.

We ask you to support and join us on this journey. Together we can ensure everyone has an equitable place as a Water Warrior.
