Direct communication from municipal officials helps policy makers better understand how their decisions could impact public power utilities. Deepesh Giri recently joined AMP as a Power Supply Analyst. In this role, Deepesh will assist in power supply resource portfolio planning, modeling and market analysis for municipal electric systems, including analyzing and evaluating power supply options and generation projects.

Prior to joining AMP, Deepesh served as a Data and Operations Intern for the Affordable Housing Trust, where he built a Python script to automate property tax delinquency tracking and developed an Excel-based housing allowance calculator. He holds a Bachelor of Science in data analytics from The Ohio State University.

Congratulations to Julia Barnett of Bowling Green, who was presented with the Lyle B. Wright Scholarship on May 18. Pictured (from left) are Bowling Green Mayor Mike Aspacher; Julia; and Alex Roth, AMP Manager of Marketing/Member Relations. A graduating senior at Bowling Green High School, Julia plans to attend Washington University in St. Louis to study biomedical engineering.

The Lyle B. Wright Scholarship is one of two awards in the AMP Scholarships Program and is given to as many as five students annually whose households receive electricity from an AMP Member utility. The scholarship was established in honor of Lyle B. Wright, who was a strong public power advocate and served on the AMP Board of Trustees from 1979 until his death in 1986. Since 1988, AMP has awarded $561,000 in scholarships.

Congratulations to Mya Porter of Coldwater, who was presented with the Richard H. Gorsuch Scholarship on May 6. Pictured (from left) are Mya’s parents, Todd and Samantha Porter; Mya; and Harry Phillips, AMP Director of Marketing/Member Relations. A graduating senior at Coldwater High School, Mya plans to attend the University of Findlay to study animal science – pre-veterinary medicine. Her father, Todd, is a Service Electrician for the Coldwater Board of Public Utilities.

The Richard H. Gorsuch Scholarship is one of two awards in the AMP Scholarships Program and is given to as many as five students annually whose parent or guardian is an employee of either a municipal electric system or AMP, or who is an elected official with responsibility for the electric system. The scholarship was established in memory of Richard H. Gorsuch, who served as AMP’s president from 1983 until his death in 1987 and who was dedicated to promoting the benefits of municipally owned electric utilities. Since 1988, AMP has awarded $561,000 in scholarships.

This week, AMP conducted an Advanced Lineworker Training course at AMP headquarters in Columbus. Apprentice lineworkers had the opportunity to expand their knowledge and skills on the topics of installation, simulated energized work and hot stick work. Twelve lineworkers attended this training, which focuses on advanced trouble investigation, crew leadership, communications and automation.

Lineworkers in attendance were from the AMP Member communities of Dover, Ellwood City, Grafton, Mifflinburg, Napoleon, Orrville, St. Clairsville and Woodsfield.

This week, we celebrated the induction of John T. Courtney, PE, into the AMP Wall of Fame. John, owner of Courtney & Associates, a public power consulting firm in Findlay, Ohio, has supported public power utilities for more than 40 years through strategic guidance, power supply arrangements and advocacy. His contributions have helped Member communities deliver reliable, cost-effective power and have strengthened the public power sector. Notably, he was responsible for the preparation of feasibility studies that led to the reestablishment of Clyde Light & Power in 1989.

Brandon Terry recently rejoined AMP as a Plant Operator at the Smithland Hydroelectric Plant. In this role, Brandon will be responsible for the overall daily monitoring and maintenance of the hydroelectric plant. This includes working as a control room operator, starting and stopping units, coordinating unit discharge rates with the U.S Army Corps of Engineers Lockmaster staff, monitoring and maintaining upstream pool elevations, and more.

Brandon previously served as a Plant Operator at the Smithland Hydroelectric Plant from 2017 to 2025. Prior to rejoining AMP, Terry served as a Site Supervisor for Origis Services, where he oversaw operations and maintenance of a 100-megawatt solar site. He holds an associate degree in applied science electrical technology from West Kentucky Community & Technical College, as well as a Kentucky Master Electrical License and National Career Readiness Certificate.
