For those of you that don't know me, I am Matthew Kenney. I was born and raised in Odessa, Missouri, a town about the size of Columbus. I ended up in Milwaukee attending Marquette University after becoming a Hurricane Katrina refugee student. The City of Milwaukee, and Wisconsin as a whole, grew on me so I decided to stay. I finished my BS degree in Civil Engineering in 2010 and moved to Madison.
I have been working as an engineer for the better part of five years and recently earned my Wisconsin Professional Engineer's license. My wife and I moved to the Columbus area because we were drawn to the charm that Columbus had to offer. Being centrally located between Madison and her parents’ farm, it was easy to make the decision to move here. For us, this is community where we plan to stay and build a future. I have found myself involved in the community quickly after moving here, as I have seen the outcome of a community that doesn't work to thrive and grow. I was placed on the city's CDA board to work with city staff and local residents to continue the economic growth happening here. I also decided to use my professional knowledge as a civil engineer to attend city council meetings about the city's 5-year capitol improvement plan as well as be apart of the James Street Reconstruction Business group. As your District 3 Alderperson, I look forward to connecting with you on any of your community questions or concerns. I want to be your voice on the City Council working to make Columbus as great of a community it can be.
