On Wednesday, May 3rd, the 4th-grade students from West Franklin Elementary School visited the Statehouse, where they learned all about Ohio's State Legislature and history. I had the opportunity to meet these young scholars and show them the House Chamber. The students came with curious minds and an eagerness to learn. It is safe to say that our great state has a bright future!

Last week, I visited the PAST Foundation, which is an Ohio nonprofit that helps K-12 schools design curriculum, internship programs, and mentoring opportunities in the STEM field. Over the past 22 years, the program has helped over 2.1 million students develop skills necessary for a successful career in STEM fields.

Last week, I had the opportunity to honor Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. at the 2023 annual MLK commemoration celebration. While there, Linden Young, a graduate from Franklin Heights high school and a freshman at Morehouse College in Atlanta, gave his winning oratorical speech which reflected on the legacy left by Dr.King.

As we take the time to honor the legacy of MLK today, I challenge you to seek unity with those around you. As Mr.Young passionately reminded us, “…Dr.King made it clear in his teachings that we as humans should connect in brotherhood, rather than separate in opposition to one another. He once said, ‘We must learn to live together as brothers or perish together as fools.’ “
