Troy McGough had the opportunity to represent The Ohio State University Libraries at Johnstown Monroe Local School District Career Day, an especially meaningful visit as it was held at his daughter’s school.

Troy spoke with more than 100 students about his work as a Digitization Associate at the Library Tech Center, sharing insight into how University Libraries preserve materials and make them accessible for education and research. The students came prepared with great questions, ranging from technical, like the oldest items he’s worked with and the largest materials that can be scanned, to the unexpected, including whether there were any firefighters at the event.

The experience was a rewarding one for Troy, who reflected saying, "Getting the chance to share how we make our materials accessible for education, research and preservation was a genuine thrill. In my short time at the University Libraries, I’ve often said that if I had known this type of job existed, I would have pursued Cultural Heritage Digitization in school from the start. My true hope is that some of the 100+ kids I spoke with last Monday will be inspired to join our field someday!"

We’re proud to share that the The Billy Ireland Cartoon Library & Museum (BICLM) was recently featured on The Big Picture on 10TV, with curator Jenny Robb discussing the importance and impact of comics in today’s world.

Beginning May 23, our reopening introduces “The Story of Comics,” an exhibition that examines how comics are made, how they communicate and how they influence culture and storytelling across generations.

We’re also honored to host a truly rare experience: “Life is Complicated” by acclaimed artist Chris Ware, his only American exhibition, running through January 3, 2027, and featuring original works, some displayed for the first time!

Join us May 23 from 1–5 p.m. to experience the reopening and see firsthand the lasting impact of comics.

Fun fact: We have the actual Japanese Manga that was the first appearance of Dragon Ball Z, and the largest collection of Manga outside of Japan!

📺 Check out Jenny's interview to learn more!
