Looking for a way to support your hardworking, local pollinators this summer?

🐝Bees play a critical role in pollination that supports local ecosystems, biodiversity, and many of the foods we rely on daily. While planting flowers is helpful to these busy bees, many native trees can be planted in your yard, providing attractive blooms as well as pollen, nectar, shelter, and habitat for bees throughout the growing season.

Looking for an unforgettable summer experience outdoors? Registration is now open for Camp Canopy, Ohio’s forestry camp for high school students interested in conservation, natural resources, and outdoor careers.

Camp will be held June 7–12, 2026, at FFA Camp Muskingum on Leesville Lake in Carroll County. Students who have completed 8th grade through graduating seniors in 2026 are eligible to attend. The registration deadline is May 29.

During the week, campers get hands-on experience in topics like tree ID, forest ecology, wildlife management, silviculture, and forest products while learning from professionals across the forestry and natural resource fields. Each year also includes unique specialty classes that introduce campers to new skills, experiences, and career paths.

Scholarships for college are awarded to select campers at the end of the week.

Camp Canopy is hosted by the Ohio Forestry Association Foundation with support from the Ohio Department of Natural Resources Division of Forestry, OSU Extension, and members of the forest industry.

Check with your local Soil and Water Conservation District to see if they can sponsor your camper!

May is National Bike Month, so we wanted to feature the popular 24+ mile mountain bike trail loop through Mohican-Memorial State Forest and Mohican State Park. 🚵🌲

This scenic trail winds through the hills and woodlands of one of Ohio’s most beautiful forested areas, with overlooks, bridges, and terrain for both beginner and advanced riders alike. Trailheads are located on State Route 3 across from Mohican State Park’s Class A Campground and on ODNR Mohican Road 51 near the former Mohican Youth Camp.

Have you ever biked this scenic loop?

Ever wondered how foresters measure a tree without climbing it? Because trees are cylindrical and taper as they grow, figuring out their size isn’t as simple as grabbing a tape measure. That’s why service foresters use a clever tool called a Biltmore stick to quickly estimate a tree’s diameter and height, helping landowners understand and manage the forests on their land.
Think you could do it? Try it yourself with PLT’s “Nature’s Sky Scrappers” activity in the K-8 activity guide.
