♻️🚛🌎 Last year, the City of Columbia was awarded a $425,200 Waste Reduction Grant from the Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation to support the purchase of a new recycling truck. This investment, which included a 30% match from the City, will boost City of Columbia Public Works recycling efforts by expanding service capacity, improving operational efficiency, and reinforcing the city’s ongoing commitment to environmental sustainability. Truck 552 recently hit the streets with a new look! Be sure to wave hello when you see our driver and truck on your street! ♻️🚛🌎

The APWA (American Public Works Association) has sponsored National Public Works week as the third week of May each year. In 1962, President John F Kennedy issued a proclamation recognizing the men and women of public works. In 2003, President George W Bush officially recognized public works as first responders.

This week (May 17 - 23, 2026) we will have several in-house events to show our employees how much they are appreciated. Their hard work, dedication and focus on our community does not go unnoticed.

Please join us in recognizing and thanking our employees for the work they do on a daily basis, to make the City of Columbia a great place to live.

During Thursday night’s storms, several trees fell and blocked city streets. Public Works would like to extend a sincere thank you to the citizens who stepped in to help us cut up trees and clear the roadways.

We may not know your names, but your willingness to help made a real difference in getting our streets reopened quickly. Your efforts are truly appreciated.
