Hi Columbia! We just had a 🔥fire🔥 in one of our garbage trucks 🚛 and it was ignited by an improperly disposed lithium battery. So, to serve as a friendly reminder to help prevent FIRES within garbage trucks, at the transfer stations where trash is disposed, and even within your home or garage:

Lithium-ion batteries and devices containing these batteries should NOT go in household garbage, recycling bins, or dumpsters. This includes cell phones, vapes/vape batteries, laptop batteries, cordless drill batteries, and batteries from ride-on toy vehicles if they are lithium-ion. Lead-acid batteries (inside many vehicles) should never be disposed of within household trash.

Lithium-ion batteries SHOULD be taken to separate recycling or household hazardous waste collection points. Lowe's has a convenient and free drop off location to recycle lithium-ion batteries within their store, usually near the customer service desk.

Cell phones can be recycled at your cell phone service provider and they may pay you for them!

Regular AA, AAA, C, D, 9-volt and button cell batteries may be disposed of with household trash.

Please place your cans at the street (serial # facing the street, and 4 ft of clearance around/between cans) by 5:00 a.m. and leave out until your cans are empty, as our trucks will be working late to collect garbage during the holiday week.

Use the form at the link to report a missed residential trash or recycling collection. If your cart was placed at the curb by 5:00am on your scheduled collection day with at least 4 feet of clearance around it and was not collected, please complete the form. Requests submitted after business hours will be reviewed on the next business day. This form is for residential curbside collection only and should not be used for commercial dumpster service.
