Damion Walker, 25, and Malcolm Price, 38, both of Columbia have been sentenced to federal prison for being felons in possession of fi****ms.

Evidence obtained in the investigation revealed that on Nov. 18, 2022, Price and Walker were present on the campus of the University of South Carolina during a concert at the Colonial Life Arena. An officer with the University of South Carolina Police Department (USCPD) patrolled the area near the arena and saw Walker and Price near a vehicle with a broken window. The officer entered the parking lot to investigate, and Price and Walker left the parking lot with Price driving. USCPD officers conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle and found Price and Walker in possession of four fi****ms, a window punch tool, and various personal effects stolen from multiple vehicles. Further investigation by USCPD found that Price, Walker, and a co-conspirator traveled to various parking lots around the Colonial Life Arena, broke into multiple vehicles, and stole fi****ms and other personal items belonging to attendees of the concert.

Here's what you need to know about e-scooters on/around campus:
🛴 SC law (SECTION 56-1-2030): E-scooters = motor vehicles
🪖 If you're under 21, you gotta wear:
✔️ Helmet (with neck or chin strap)
✔️ Reflectors on both sides of it
✔️ Goggles or a face shield

🚫 SECTION 56-5-3835: No driving vehicles on sidewalks, unless it's a permanent driveway

City of Columbia (Ordinance No. 2018-079, Chapter 12, Article I):
🚷 No e-scooters on public sidewalks/property
🚗 No e-scooters on roads over 25 mph (aka most streets)
📍 Must park in designated spots only

USC K-9 units earn national recognition

“Our K-9 teams performing at such a high level in a national competition is a tremendous source of pride for our department. USC Police K-9 Retires

COLUMBIA, S.C. — After more than five years of dedicated service, K-9 Rudy has officially retired from the University of South Carolina Division of Law Enforcement and Safety.

Rudy, a yellow Labrador retriever, joined the agency in February 2021 and was certified through the United States Police Canine Association and Global Canine Protection Group. As an explosives and firearm detection dog, she completed more than 100 deployments throughout her career. Rudy supported athletic events, concert sweeps and dignitary visits, and assisted partner agencies. She most recently served alongside Officer R. Molina.

Rudy logged more than 1,200 training hours and was a familiar face at community events, including Kisses with K-9s, Pizza with Police and New Student Orientation. She connected with countless students, faculty and staff across the Carolina community throughout her tenure.

Please join us in thanking K-9 Rudy for her service and wishing her a well-earned retirement filled with rest and plenty of treats.
