Howard County Farm Feature: 🍂 Fall Flavors Are Coming to Frank’s Produce & Greenhouses

A Howard County staple since 1975, Frank’s began as a roadside produce stand and has grown into a family-run open-air market and greenhouse operation in Elkridge. The family also farms properties in western Howard County, continuing the agricultural roots on which the business was built.

As summer gives way to fall, Frank’s is a great local stop to make the seasonal transition. Along with fresh produce, its market carries locally sourced products, including meats, honey, jams, and other goods, while eight greenhouses offer plants and seasonal selections year-round.

Weekly Data Dive: Hispanic Heritage Month

Howard County’s Hispanic community is growing, shaping our future and making an important contribution to our local economy and business community.

📈 30,000+ Hispanic or Latino residents now call Howard County home, representing about 9% of the County’s population. In 1970, that number was just 500.

🎓 14.3% of HCPSS students identify as Hispanic or Latino, highlighting the community’s growing representation among the next generation.

🌎 Mexican residents make up the County’s largest Hispanic or Latino origin group, accounting for nearly one-quarter of Howard County’s Hispanic population.

🍗 Hispanic entrepreneurship is contributing to local business growth. Pipilinka Peruvian Charbroiled Chicken received a LIFT Fund loan to support its expansion, helping create three new jobs and retain eight existing jobs.

🌱 In May, the Maryland Innovation Center welcomed Gradyn-Doulah, a woman- and Hispanic-owned custom garden design and coaching business, as an Amplify member.

From residents and students to entrepreneurs building and expanding businesses, Howard County’s Hispanic community continues to strengthen our culture, workforce and economy.

🌱 A new chapter for Howard County agriculture is taking root at West Friendship Park.

We recently joined our agricultural community to break ground on the future Charles C. Feaga Agricultural Center, part of a $4.3 million County investment in planning, design and site development.

Shaped by input from local farmers and agricultural partners, the new center will serve as a hub for agricultural services, education and collaboration. Plans include a teaching and demonstration kitchen, modern meeting spaces and a home for key agricultural organizations serving our farming community.

Named in honor of lifelong farmer and agricultural advocate Charles C. Feaga, the center will help carry forward Howard County’s agricultural legacy while creating new opportunities for farmers, partners and future generations.
