Councilwoman Gretchen D. Cooper hosted a District 7 town hall meeting at the Parklane Adult Activity Center in Columbia tonight. She updated residents on district developments, including four properties up for proposed rezoning, and residents were able to ask applicants questions about their proposed plans.

It was a night of honors at Tuesday’s County Council meeting!

• A resolution was presented to the S.C. State Guard in recognition of National Preparedness Month and its work to support emergency readiness and response efforts in the state.

• A resolution celebrated the University of South Carolina Equestrian team for its historic 2025 National Collegiate Equestrian Association Championship win.

• A resolution commemorated the work of The B Strong Group and named September as Sickle Cell Awareness Month in the County.

• A proclamation recognized the impact of County native Rebecca Anderson for her lifetime of providing nourishment, encouragement and generosity to the Hopkins community.

The Richland County Neighborhood Improvement Program invites you to the 22nd Annual Planning Conference Saturday, Sept. 26 to learn how your county is working to support thoughtful housing and how AI can have implications in the future!

Key focuses will be:

• the County’s efforts to address housing needs using federal grants
• the County’s Comprehensive Plan and the role of planning in shaping our communities
• the role of AI technology in today’s world

Our hearts go out to the Columbia Police Department for the loss of Officer Christopher DeLong. Officer DeLong gave his life serving people in Richland County, and his sacrifice will be remembered and honored.

We also thank Officer David Dymock for his courage and service, and we wish him a speedy recovery.
