South Carolina Business One Stop (SCBOS) is a free, government-provided online source for existing and emerging businesses.

Are you opening a business in South Carolina? 🤔

One of the first things you’ll need to do is check to see if your location requires a local business license.

1️⃣Determine if your location requires a local business license by using the Local Business License Renewal Center’s list.

2️⃣If you need a local business license, contact the county and municipality where your business will operate. Your local office will provide instructions on how to apply.

Are you trying to get a local business license and don't know where to start? 🤔

Here are some steps you can take:

• Determine if your location requires a local business license. (We can help!)

• Contact the county and municipality your business is operating in. Most local offices will have a PDF or online application on their website.

Does your business need to register with the SC Secretary of State? The answer depends on your business structure! 🚨

For example, if you’re a sole proprietor or part of a general partnership, you DON’T have to register with the Secretary of State.

But if you’re part of an LLC, corporation, or limited partnership, you do need to register with them.

And regardless of business structure, there will be other local and tax compliance requirements.
