Heart of Missouri CASA

Heart of Missouri CASA Heart of Missouri CASA speaks up for children in the family courts who’ve been abused or neglected.

Heart of Missouri CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) believes every child who has been abused or neglected deserves to have a dedicated advocate speaking up for their best interest in court, at school and in our community. To accomplish this, CASA educates and empowers community volunteers who ensure each child’s needs remain a priority in an overburdened child welfare system. When the state steps in to protect a child’s safety because the people responsible for protecting them have not, a judge appoints a trained volunteer advocate to make independent and informed recommendations and help the judge decide what is best for the child. Volunteer advocates come from every walk of life, yet share a commitment to improving children’s lives, a willingness to learn, and an open mind towards life experiences different from their own. Volunteers complete an interview, a background check, and a 30-hour intensive training program including courtroom observation and are then sworn into their roles by a judge and assigned to a single child or a sibling group. CASA is not your typical volunteer opportunity… but we’re not looking for typical volunteers.

When organizations come together, communities grow.
We recently joined Veterans United for an informational lunch-and-learn, introducing CASA to more than 50 employees.

Because of this partnership, Veterans United employees interested in serving as advocates will have the opportunity to apply for a specialized training program held at VU in fall 2026.

🎉We’re proud to launch our first CASA/business partnership for volunteer recruitment and grateful for the opportunity to expand our CASA community!

Callaway County CASA volunteers recently came together for a discussion of Wards of the State by Claudia Rowe. Here is a powerful quote from the book that really stood out to us. “There is only one intervention that has been shown, conclusively, to make a change in kids' brains that translates into lasting behavior improvement. That intervention is relationships.”

It was meaningful to have this space to learn, reflect, and strengthen our shared commitment to making a difference in the lives of children.

When it’s complete, the Clubhouse will be a place where children and families can spend meaningful time together, safely and comfortably. Room for the small reunions between brothers and sisters who don't get to see each other enough. Room for a CASA volunteer and the child they advocate for to sit down with a book or a board game and just get to know each other a little better. Room to celebrate the birthdays and milestones every kid deserves to celebrate.

Every wall, window, and room brings us closer to creating a place designed around connection, comfort, and community. Thank you for following along and supporting this journey. We can’t wait to welcome families into the Clubhouse and share more updates as construction continues.

We had the opportunity to visit the Kappa Alpha Theta chapter at Mizzou and share more about the impact they make in the lives of children through their fundraising efforts every year.

CASA is Mizzou Kappa Alpha Theta's national philanthropy, and we loved seeing the chapter's enthusiasm as they learned more about what their support makes possible for children in foster care.

Last year, the MU chapter alone raised more than $29,000 for CASA. WOW!

We are so grateful for the continued partnership with Kappa Alpha Theta and can't wait to see what this year's members accomplish together. We are excited to be part of another year of making an impact together.
