Chuck Walsh provides a detailed progress report on the restoration of the Lackawanna Cut-Off, traveling from east to west (Port Morris, NJ to Slateford, PA) to highlight key infrastructure projects and planning stages for 2026 and beyond.
In New Jersey - We visit Port Morris Jct., the station at Lake Hopatcong, the future grade crossing at County Road 602, the bridge at County Road 605, Roseville Tunnel, Andover Station, the US Route 206 under-crossing, Greendell Station, Mill Road in Frelinghuysen Township, and Blairstown Station.
Chuck also reflects on the North Jersey Rail Commuter Association's 40+ year history, specifically the 1989 bond issue that secured $25 million for the state to acquire the abandoned right-of-way, and the prevention of road crossings from from becoming obstructions on the right-of-way.
In Pennsylvania - We visit Slateford Jct. to look at the "fill-in" at Slateford Road and how critical it will be for Amtrak to gain access for restoration to the Delaware River Viaduct under a new roadway bridge. Chuck will also discuss future work that will be done on the railroad in Pennsylvania.
Finally, while many FRA Corridor ID projects are in the study or planning phases, Chuck emphasizes that construction is the ultimate goal, as well as keeping the community informed through these ongoing updates.
