The Marion County Regional Correctional Facility is proud to partner with our local first responders, including the dedicated volunteer fire departments that serve our communities. Through the vocational training programs offered at our facility, inmates were able to build specialized beds for use in fire department living quarters.

Serving Marion County is truly a team effort, and we are honored to contribute in a meaningful way. By combining workforce development with community partnerships, we are helping support the men and women who work every day to keep our county safe. We are proud to be part of that team and grateful for the opportunity to serve alongside our fellow public safety agencies.

It is with great sorrow that we regretfully announce the passing of one of our own Correctional Officers, Officer Caroline Powell. Officer Powell loved her job and took her service to her community serious. She will be greatly missed by her co-workers.

Officer Powell succumbed to injuries sustained in a vehicle accident on the morning of May 26, 2026, while on her way to work.

During this difficult time, we extend our deepest condolences to her family, friends, and all who knew and loved her. Our thoughts and prayers are with them as they navigate this tremendous loss. We pray for strength, comfort, and peace in the days ahead.

Rest in Peace, Officer Powell.

We will take it from here.

This week, we acknowledge the invaluable contributions of Correctional Officers and the critical role they play. Specifically, we would like to express our gratitude to the dedicated officers at the Marion County Regional Correctional Facility. Their tireless efforts ensure public safety while providing essential care, custody, and control of the inmate population. Correctional officers wear multiple hats, serving not only as law enforcement officers but also as medical responders, peacekeepers, and counselors. Despite often working behind the scenes, their dedication and commitment to duty are vital to our community's well-being. We encourage everyone to express their appreciation to these officers, acknowledging the challenging nature of their work. To all current and former Correctional Officers, we extend our sincerest gratitude for your service and commitment to protecting and serving our communities.
