The South Carolina Philharmonic reflects the core values of our state—community, education, service, and cultural heritage. Through innovative performances and meaningful outreach, the SC Philharmonic brings music to those who need it most: schools, hospitals, prisons, neighborhoods, and beyond.

Susan Caferty, Director of Education & Community Engagement, shared an inspiring story about a child named Jalena who attended a SCPhil performance based on Aesop’s Fables. Jalena was completely captivated. Recognizing that spark, the SCPhil team made sure the experience didn’t stop there. Now in the ninth grade, Jalena is well on the way to becoming a musician.

Music has the power to bring joy, healing, confidence, and enlightenment—and this story is a perfect example of that impact.

It was easy to see how and the South Carolina Philharmonic share a commitment to serving their communities and making lives better.

Our speaker last week was Andy Broughton with the Keep on Giving Foundation, a group that empowers second chances to help transform lives and build futures.

The Keep On Giving Foundation's vision is to foster positive change by supporting youth leaving the justice systems as they embark on their journey toward a better future. Through compassion, support, and belief in human potential, they are truly changing lives—one story at a time.

Please contact Andy if your club is looking for a speaker who can motivate you to get involved with helping to show youth their potential.

It was a great day for litter pickup on Goat Island at Lake Murray this past Saturday. As part of the Adopt -a-Waterway program, the Rotary Club of Lake Murray-Irmo cleans the island each spring and fall. We were joined by Rotarians, Future Rotarians and the Dutch Fork High School Interact Club. It’s fun for all ages, 4 to 87 :) To find out more about this and other service opportunities in our community, please contact us.

We need more Rotarians like Frank Gibson. Thank you!

Fifty years and going strong! The Rotary Club of Beaufort honored Rotarian Frank Gibson on his 50th anniversary of Rotary membership. Frank was also honored for achieving major donor level II status, having donated more than $50,000 to the Rotary Foundation. To recap some of Frank's many achievements: a business executive, a retired South Carolina Army National Guard officer, a former NCAA football referee, a former president of the Rotary Club of Beaufort, and the 2022 recipient of the Club's most prestigious award, The Rotary Bowl. Selfless service is the hallmark of Rotary's motto of "service above self," and that describes Frank. He (left) is pictured with Rotary Club of Beaufort's Foundation chair Ethan James (right), who presented him with Rotary International's recognition crystal.
