The FBI has issued a warning about using public phone charging stations, like the ones in many airports.
Hackers have figured out a way to add malware that can be used to extract information from your phone while it's being charged and you will never know. This is called "Juice Jacking", the scammer/hacker installs a skimming device inside the USB ports on the public phone charger station.
The hacker will then have access to your email, contacts, apps, banking information, text messages and more! Within minutes the hacker do the following:
• Spoof your phone number to call people to scam them.
• Steal your identity and drain your bank accounts in less than a 60-90 seconds.
• Add spyware to track your location
The scary thing is all this can be done to your phone and you will not even know, until something bad happens. So never use a public charger, always bring your own charging cord. Go out and buy another charging cord and use it for when you leave the house or travel. When buying a charging cord, make sure it is Apple or Android certified so you don't damage your phone. Don't buy the pretty cute colored cords unless they meet your phones specifications.
