This year, I have a lot to celebrate and even more to be grateful for.

Because of you, years of hard work became a primary victory. Every conversation, every door knocked, every contribution, and every vote helped bring us to this moment. I am deeply grateful for all of it.

As I get ready to celebrate my birthday, I cannot think of a better way to mark the occasion than with the people who have been part of this journey.

Join me and our campaign at Lib's Grill on Monday, September 28, from 6 to 8 p.m. for a birthday celebration.

We will share some good food, good company, and a few stories from the road that brought us here.

And as we look toward November 3, I am grateful to have you alongside me for what comes next.

I hope you will join me.

Twenty-five years later, September 11th remains a day we remember not only for what happened, but for the lives that were changed forever.

We remember the nearly 3,000 people who never made it home. We remember the families who have carried that loss for a quarter century. We remember the first responders, service members, and ordinary people who ran toward danger when others were running away.

And we remember those who continue to live with the grief, trauma, and lasting consequences of that day.

A generation has grown up since September 11. But remembering is not simply about looking back. It is about how we choose to live forward.

May we honor those we lost through service, compassion, and a commitment to care for one another.

We remember. We honor them. We will never forget.

Happy Labor Day!

Today, we honor the hardworking people who build, protect, teach, and keep our communities moving forward every single day.

The labor movement helped build the American middle class, and strong unions continue to ensure that working families have fair wages, safe workplaces, and a voice on the job. I am proud to stand with organized labor and grateful for the support of our local union brothers and sisters.

I enjoyed the afternoon with neighbors, labor leaders, and community members at the Howard County Democratic Party Unity & Labor Picnic at Centennial Park. Moments like this remind us of the power of solidarity, community, and standing together for working families.

On to November.

This is the kind of community news I love to see.

After 16 years in Hickory Ridge, The Meadows Original Frozen Custard of Columbia, MD is staying right here in the neighborhood.

What really stood out was the incredible outpouring of support. From Jeremy Dommu at the Merriweather Post amplifying the story to neighbors making calls and sending emails, our community spoke up and made clear just how much The Meadows means to Hickory Ridge.

I also had the opportunity to speak with the landlord and share why keeping this longtime local institution in our village center matters.

That collective energy made all the difference.

Looking forward to many more years of memories, community, and frozen custard in the Hickory Ridge Village Center, and seeing everyone at their upcoming celebration. 🍦

Today on Women’s Equality Day, we honor the women who fought to open doors and recognize the work that remains to ensure true equity and representation.

Our communities are stronger, more resilient, and more just when women have a voice and a seat at every decision-making table.

Today and every day, let’s keep doing the work to ensure every woman and girl has the opportunity to lead, contribute, and thrive.

A new school year starts with more than new classes. It starts with community.

I enjoyed spending time with the students, families, and staff at Harper’s Choice Middle School yesterday as they kicked off the new school year. There’s something special about seeing a school community come together, reconnect, and get ready for what’s ahead.

After more than a decade working in Maryland’s public sector, across Prince George’s, Howard, and now Anne Arundel Counties, I’ve attended my share of MACo Summer Conferences.

But this year felt different.

I came to Ocean City with both the perspective of a county administrator and the perspective of someone preparing to serve in elected office. That gave me a different lens on the conversations about what counties are facing and the work ahead for both Howard County and Anne Arundel County.

This year’s theme, “Build What’s Next,” felt especially relevant. We cannot build stronger communities in silos. Counties sit at the center of so much of what shapes daily life: schools and public facilities, housing, water and infrastructure, transportation, energy, economic development, and increasingly, the challenges presented by data centers and a changing electric grid.

Good local government requires us to see the bigger picture and understand how decisions about land use, infrastructure, housing, transportation, sustainability, and economic development connect to one another and affect people’s everyday lives.

And MACO is always a great opportunity to reconnect with friends and former colleagues from across Maryland.

I left Ocean City with a lot of ideas, conversations to continue, and an even greater appreciation for the work ahead.
