That’s a wrap on the 2026 SCAC Awards Competition!

We ended the day with a presentation from Beaufort County Government SC and Jasper County SC about their conservation collaboration. Beaufort County also shared insights from their food waste diversion program.

We heard from Horry County Fire Rescue about an innovative program to help emergency patients receive blood before arriving at the hospital.

And Greenville County, SC capped off today’s competition with a presentation on using technology to better protect county property owners.

We’ve seen some incredible presentations so far this morning.

Fairfield County South Carolina highlighted the importance of getting young people educated and interested in local government, and Florence County Government approached the issue of aging populations from the opposite end of the spectrum by addressing the “silver tsunami” of county employees approaching retirement age.

Berkeley County Coroner's Office shared how they’re converting opioid deaths into prevention opportunities to reduce the number of opioid deaths in the county.

We’ve got a few more presentations today, and we can’t wait to hear about the great work our counties are doing!

As SCAC’s new property and liability claims adjuster, he’ll work closely with the rest of our insurance team to provide insurance services uniquely tailored to meet the needs of county governments in South Carolina.

Did you know Harriet Tubman has a special connection to Georgetown County?

“Whispers of My Ancestors,” a life-size bronze statue depicting Harriet Tubman and her nephew, James Bowley, a former Georgetown resident, was unveiled earlier this year. Created by artist Wesley Wofford, the piece now welcomes visitors to the Georgetown County Library.

Did you know that counties in the U.S. maintain more than 40% of all public road miles and nearly 40% of the nation’s 620,000+ bridges?

Yet as costs for construction materials and supplies continue to rise, counties are being asked to do more with less.

In the latest issue of County Focus magazine, National Association of Counties CEO and Executive Director Matthew Chase highlights the critical role counties play in maintaining America’s infrastructure and the importance of advocating for infrastructure funding to Congress and to state legislatures.
