🎳 Strike up some Main Street fun!

In recognition of US Bowling League Day, we’re throwing it back to this year’s Main Street Now Conference in Tulsa, Oklahoma, where our South Carolina crew gathered for a little friendly competition on the lanes at Dust Bowl Lanes & Lounge.

Let’s just say… we may be better at revitalizing downtowns than we are at bowling. 😂🎳

But just like Main Street, it’s always better when you’re part of a team!

Nearly 5️⃣0️⃣ years ago, the National Trust for Historic Preservation launched a demonstration project that would become the foundation for Main Street America's Four-Point Approach.

What did they learn? Successful downtown revitalization takes:

🤝 Strong public-private partnerships
🏢 Dedicated local organizations
👥 Local leadership
🏛️ A commitment to good design and historic preservation
📣 Quality programming
📈 A coordinated approach

Today, those same principles continue to guide Main Street communities across South Carolina (& across the nation).

When a new community joins the Main Street SC network…

✅ MSSC team visits with the local leaders
✅ Downtown tour to explore all the opportunities
✅ Onboarding of the Main Street program manager

Now the work begins to develop the local team, build partnerships and identify next steps.

Downtown revitalization doesn’t happen overnight, but when there is thoughtful, strategic planning and implementation the results can be transformative.

We are excited to have the City of Union, SC join as our 34th community, implementing the Main Street Approach for revitalizing their downtown.
