*** DUI / CDL CHECKPOINT 09/11/2026 ***

On Friday, September 11, 2026, the Colton Police Department will conduct a driving under the influence (DUI) & Driver’s License (CDL) Checkpoint from 6:00 p.m. to 2:00 a.m., at an undisclosed location.

DUl checkpoint locations are determined based on data showing incidents of impaired driving-related crashes and arrests. The primary purpose of DUl checkpoints is to promote public safety by taking suspected impaired drivers off the road.

“Impaired drivers put others on the road at significant risk.” Chief A. Vega said. “Any prevention measures that reduce the number of impaired drivers on our roads significantly improves traffic safety.”

Colton Police Department reminds the public that impaired driving is not just from alcohol. Some prescription medications and over-the-counter drugs may interfere with driving. While medicinal and recreational ma*****na are legal, driving under the influence of ma*****na remains illegal.

Drivers charged with a first-time DUl face an average of $13,500 in fines and penalties, as well as a suspended license.

Funding for this program was provided by the Cannabis Tax Fund Grant Program through the California Highway Patrol.

Officer Villalobos has consistently demonstrated exceptional dedication, professionalism, and commitment to the Colton Police Department and the community. As a member of the Traffic Division and senior investigator with the Major Accident Investigation Team, he has handled numerous complex and fatal collision investigations while maintaining a high standard of work. Officer Villalobos also serves as an FTO, FARO Trainee, crisis negotiator, and a member of the Off-Road & Recruitment Team.

Dispatcher of the Year - Dispatcher L. Hernandez
Throughout the past year, Dispatcher Hernandez has consistently demonstrated exceptional professionalism, dedication, and skill in one of the most demanding roles within the department. Her calm communication, professionalism under pressure, and unwavering dedication have made her an invaluable member of the department.

Professional Staff of the Year - IT Coordinator D. Cantrell
Since joining the Colton Police Department, IT Coordinator Cantrell has transformed the reliability and effectiveness of the department’s technology operations. Through his technical expertise, proactive approach, and tireless work ethic, IT Coordinator Cantrell has resolved longstanding issues and taken on critical projects that have strengthened the department’s infrastructure and operations.

Volunteer of the Year - Volunteer S. Ojeda
Over the past 10 years, Volunteer Ojeda has proudly served as a Citizen Volunteer, demonstrating an unwavering commitment to the community and the Colton Police Department. His reliability and willingness to step forward whenever needed is greatly appreciated.

*** FATAL TRAFFIC COLLISION ***

On September 4, 2026, at approximately 6:50 p.m., Colton Police Officers responded to a report of a traffic collision near the intersection of 12th Street and East “F” Street in the City of Colton.

Upon arrival, officers located a Volvo SUV involved in a collision with an electric bicycle ridden by a single female rider.

Emergency personnel immediately began life-saving measures. She was transported to a local hospital, where she later succumbed to her injuries. The rider was identified as 38-year-old Asandria Jacobo, a resident of Colton, California.

The driver of the Volvo remained on the scene and cooperated with investigators.

The Colton Police Department’s Major Accident Investigation Team (MAIT) responded to the scene and assumed responsibility for the investigation.

The cause and circumstances of the collision remain under investigation. No further information is available at this time.

After a recent acknowledgement by the San Bernardino County District Attorney’s Office, Colton PD Command Staff recognized two professional staff members for their attention to detail and consistency in their work, while one of our officers was recognized for his knowledge and professionalism.

These moments are a great reminder that excellence isn’t always found in the spotlight—it’s in the everyday work that helps strengthen our department and supports the agencies we work alongside.
