We're back at it again, it's been a long time coming!
The plumbing issues at Merritt Park have been a persistent challenge, but we're making progress. This past week, we replaced approximately 60 feet of water line and have begun the process of upgrading the restroom facilities.
We are working hard to improve the amenities throughout the park and continue investing in the future of Merritt Park. Our goal is to once again make it a beautiful place where families can gather and children can play and create memories for years to come.
These photos highlight some of the work completed over the last week. Over the next few months, I look forward to sharing more updates with our community as these improvements continue to take shape.
Thank you for your patience and support as we work to make Merritt Park better than ever!

Time to lace up those running shoes and get ready for the 1st Annual Freedom Fest 5K! Whether you're a runner, a walker, a run/walker, a shuffler... whether you're at the top of your game or just getting started - this is a great "race" for you! We'll be taking off from Spring Creek Park at 8AM sharp on June 27th, racing down Pine Street, Cuthbert Street and Perry Street to turn around at the MCBOE, then finishing up back at Spring Creek Park. There will be awards for 1st, 2nd, & 3rd overall.

You can find the signup on runsignup.com, use the QR code on the flyer, or visit the link in the comments. If you prefer in-person signup (or if RunSignUp hasn't got the link fully setup yet), run by the MCRD office at Spring Creek Park, and they'll have copies of the form. If you've got questions about this event (or the Pickleball Tournament, which we will post about soon), the Colquitt - Miller County Parks and Recreation Department has the answers! Give Mitch a call at 229-202-0514.

On behalf of the Miller County Recreation Department, we are very grateful for our Track & Field team this year! We had a great turnout, and the future looks very bright for MCRD athletics.

We are incredibly proud of all of our athletes and coaches. None of this would have been possible without the support of our parents and the dedication and guidance from our coaching staff — Russ Henley, Leigh Ribolzi, Melanie Williams, Melanese Stevenson and Kenneth Ellison. Thank you all for everything you have done for our kids this season.

We also want to recognize the many MCRD Track & Field athletes who competed at Districts. We are proud of every single athlete involved and the hard work, sportsmanship, and determination they showed throughout the season.

A very special shoutout goes to Robyn Lembrick, who qualified in her event to advance to State! Robyn, we are beyond proud of your accomplishments and the way you represented MCRD. Congratulations.

Big things are happening at Spring Creek Park, and we are excited to finally share the news!

Over the past several months, we have been working alongside our county commissioners to create a plan for major improvements to the park entrance and parking lots, including repaving, repairs, and upgraded access throughout the property.

As part of this exciting project, the main drive into the park — along with the dirt road leading to the ag barn — will officially become DOT roads! This is a huge step forward for the future of the park and our community.

Now comes the fun part… and we want YOU to be a part of it!

These new roads need names, and we are asking the community to help us decide. This is your chance to leave a lasting mark on Spring Creek Park by helping choose names that reflect our history, community pride, agriculture, nature, or anything that makes our area special.

We cannot wait to see what our community comes up with, and we appreciate everyone’s support as we continue making improvements to the park for generations to come. I will take ideas until the last week of May!

Throwback Thursday at Spring Creek Park.
These signs tell the story of years past — moments of pride, hard work, and accomplishments that helped shape this park and this community.
This year, we’re starting something new.
With fresh energy and a shared vision, we’re building teams and creating opportunities that will carry us forward for years to come. Our goal is simple: to honor what came before us while working to add even more memories, more achievements, and yes… more signs at Spring Creek Park.
The past built the foundation. Now it’s our turn to build the future.

Please share any stories, photos and tag whoever we can that are on the signs in the comments below
