CITY OF COLONIAL HEIGHTS
BOIL WATER ADVISORY LIFTED
Saturday, April 4, 2026

SUBJECT:
Boil Water Advisory Lifted for the City of Colonial Heights and Important Flushing Instructions

The City of Colonial Heights has lifted the Boil Water Advisory (BWA) as of April 4, 2026 at 1:20pm. The BWA advisory was originally issued on April 1, 2026 following a service interruption and loss of water pressure. A series of bacteriological samples collected on April 2 and April 3, 2026 were tested by a state-certified laboratory and were absent of both total coliform and E. coli bacteria. These results confirm that the water is now safe for normal use.
IMPORTANT POST-ADVISORY FLUSHING INSTRUCTIONS
Before resuming normal water use, please complete the following post-advisory flushing steps for your home, restaurant, place of business or other location to ensure fresh water has reached your plumbing system:
• Run all outdoor taps for approximately 10 minutes to bring fresh water from the water main to your property.
• If you use cartridge filtration systems, replace the filter(s) before consuming water.
• If you have a water softener, run a regeneration/backwash cycle.
• Run all cold-water faucets indoors for one minute, starting with the faucet closest to the water line entry, then moving through lower-level faucets and finally upper-level faucets.
• Clean faucet aerators.
• Run the hot water in a bathtub for 10 minutes to replace water in the hot water heater.
• Dispose of any ice that may have been made while the Boil Water Advisory was in effect.
After completing these steps, you may safely resume full use of your tap water.
If you have questions or need additional information, please call (804) 520-9300 or email [email protected].
*Please share this information with all the other people who drink this water, especially those who may not have received this notice directly (for example, people in apartments, nursing homes, schools, and businesses). You can do this by posting this notice in a public place or distributing copies by hand or mail.*
Thank you for your cooperation throughout this advisory period.

CITY OF COLONIAL HEIGHTS
BOIL WATER ADVISORY NOTICE
April 1, 2026

Around 11 AM on Wednesday, April 1, 2026, the City of Colonial Heights experienced a wide-spread water outage affecting a range of citizens and businesses (including any Colonial Heights water customers that reside outside the city limits). Public Works crews have identified the waterline break as having occurred on a 16" waterline in Old Town Creek, behind the Southpark Crossing shopping center.
City crews have isolated the damaged section of waterline and are working with a contractor to repair the break.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION ABOUT YOUR DRINKING WATER
BOIL YOUR TAP WATER

The Virginia Department of Health in conjunction the Chesterfield & Colonial Heights Health District and the City of Colonial Heights are advising residents to use boiled tap water or bottled water for drinking and cooking purposes as a safety precaution. This precaution is necessary because of the occurrences of zero and/or negative system pressure at the waterworks observed on April 1, 2026, and the likelihood of the presence of E. coli in the drinking water. The City is experiencing water outages due to a watermain break.
*Failure to follow this advisory could result in stomach or intestinal illness.
