🏃‍♀️☀️I've officially signed up for something I've never done before—a Half Marathon 👀
(run/walk) on the King George Rail Trail this August!

Will it be hot? Absolutely.
Humid? Most likely.
A little uncomfortable? Probably.
Thankfully much of the course is shaded! 😅

More than anything, though, this is about challenging myself to do something outside my comfort zone.

As I've been dedicated this year to continuing to challenge myself, I want to encourage my community to do the same. I've realized how important it is to keep finding new goals, trying new things, and staying active—not because we're competing with anyone else, but because we're investing in ourselves.

Colonial Beach is such a beautiful place and we have really worked hard to enhance our parks and recreation amenities, whether it is basketball, pickleball, or tennis at Torrey Smith Park, walking the dog at James Monroe's Birthplace, paddle boarding along the shoreline, heading over to River Gym, Hatha Yoga at the community center, or the customary walk around the Point, we have a lot to offer for a small rural town to stay healthy, active, and have fun!

I'm curious: what are you doing to stay active these days? Walking, running, biking, kayaking, swimming, gardening, pickleball, gym workouts, youth sports with your kids—whatever it is, I'd love to hear about it. Sometimes hearing what others are doing is just the motivation someone else needs to get moving too.

For anyone who might want to join me on this adventure, I created Team for the event.

No pressure, no expectations—just an opportunity to encourage one another and see what we're capable of when we decide to give something new a try.

Keep staying positive, challenging yourself, get outside, and remembering that progress isn't about being the fastest, it's about taking the next step. 💛

The 3H Trail Half Marathon + DHRT 50K is on Saturday August 8, 2026. It includes the following events: 3H Trail Half Marathon and Dahlgren Heritage Rail Trail 50K.

Happy Mother’s Day to all the moms out there doing their best every single day, often carrying more than anyone else realizes.

Over the last several months, I stepped back from a lot of the noise and distractions online and spent more time focusing on the things that matter most to me: being the best mom I can be, growing in my career as an architect, serving Colonial Beach as Mayor, and challenging myself in my fitness and personal growth.

Last weekend Teach and I completed our first Spartan Race and this weekend we are enjoying camping with friends and family at Westmoreland State Park, enjoying the natural beauty of our Northern Neck. Its been incredibly rewarding and I am so grateful for these special times together.

One thing I’ve learned is that balance doesn’t mean doing everything perfectly. It means continuing to show up with love, discipline, resilience, and purpose even when life feels overwhelming.

To every mom juggling work, family, community responsibilities, goals, exhaustion, and everything in between, I see you, and I hope today you take a moment to appreciate yourself too. The work you do matters more than you know and inspires those around you.

Wishing everyone a beautiful, peaceful, and happy Mother’s Day. ❤️

This was a BIG week for our town! 🍎🌱🚧

Our Colonial Beach Public Schools Scholastic Bowl Team are Regional CHAMPIONS! ON TO States Next!

Parks and Recreation, Town of Colonial Beach officially broke ground on the new park in The Meadows, and construction is well underway! This space will soon be filled with laughter, play, and families making memories — exactly what this growing area of our community deserves.

We also celebrated the groundbreaking for the new High School entrance today — another exciting step forward for our students and school community. This project represents safety, pride, and continued investment in our kids and their future. 🖤💛

None of these accomplishments happened overnight. They took dedication, teamwork, and follow-through from incredible people — Town Council members, School Board members, staff, students, and so many others who stayed committed to seeing these goals become reality.

This is what it looks like when a community works together.
This is what it means to leave a place better than you found it.

And most importantly — it celebrates our CB kids. 🫶

🚨 Trash Collection Update 🚨

Due to ongoing winter weather conditions and the combination of snow, ice, and freezing temperatures, the Town of Colonial Beach has canceled trash collection for this week to help keep residents and Town employees safe. We apologize for the inconvenience this may cause.

Snow- and ice-covered curbs create additional challenges, including limited visibility, unstable footing for crews, and difficulty safely placing trash cans near roadways. These conditions increase the risk of injuries, equipment damage, and traffic hazards for both residents and collection staff.

Because of these safety concerns, trash collection operations cannot be completed safely at this time. Regular trash pickup routes will resume next week as weather and road conditions improve.

Thank you for your patience and cooperation.

Weather & Safety Update

Road conditions remain very icy throughout the Town. For your safety and the safety of our emergency crews, please stay home and do not attempt to travel unless absolutely necessary.

🗑 Trash collection will be delayed and rescheduled once road conditions improve and it is safe for crews to operate.

🌬 Winds are expected to increase this afternoon, and combined with the existing ice accumulation, there is still the potential for power outages.

❄ Tonight’s low will be in the teens, followed by 7–8 consecutive days of freezing temperatures, which is very rare for our area. Please take steps to protect pipes, pets, and vulnerable neighbors.

📢 Emergency updates and service alerts will be sent via CODE RED and RAVE for Town and County information. Please make sure you are signed up to receive these notifications.

Stay safe, stay warm, and please stay home!
