🔥 BURN BAN IN EFFECT 🔥

The Covington County Sheriff’s Department is notifying all citizens that Covington County, Mississippi, is under a countywide burn ban effective today, August 18, 2026, through September 18, 2026.

During this period, all outdoor burning and open fires are prohibited. Anyone found violating the burn ban may be subject to a citation.

Please help protect our citizens, homes, property, and first responders by complying with this order. We appreciate everyone’s cooperation.

🚨 DRIVE SOBER OR GET PULLED OVER 🚨

From August 19 through September 7, 2026, the Covington County Sheriff’s Office will join law-enforcement agencies nationwide in the “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” campaign.

During this enforcement period, motorists can expect an increased law-enforcement presence focused on removing impaired drivers from our roadways.

If you plan to drink:

✅ Designate a sober driver
✅ Use a rideshare service
✅ Call a friend or family member
✅ Never allow an impaired person to drive

Driving impaired is never worth the risk. Help us protect lives and keep Covington County’s roads safe.

🚨 STOLEN ATV - PUBLIC’S HELP NEEDED 🚨

The Covington County Sheriff’s Office is actively investigating the theft of the ATV pictured below and is asking for the public’s assistance.

This red CFMOTO 4x4 was stolen sometime between 10:00 p.m. last night and 7:00 a.m. this morning from the Highway 589 area near Seminary.

This ATV had recently been purchased by its owner to assist with mobility while living with a brain disease and to help maintain their property. This theft has had a significant impact on the victim.
If you saw anything suspicious in the Highway 589 area overnight, noticed a vehicle pulling a trailer, or have any information, no matter how small it may seem, please contact the Covington County Sheriff’s Office through:

🚨 INVESTIGATION UPDATE | THANK YOU, COVINGTON COUNTY! 🚨

The Covington County Sheriff's Department would like to extend our sincere appreciation to the citizens of Covington County and surrounding communities for your tremendous assistance during this investigation.

Thanks to the information provided by the public, along with the dedicated work of our deputies and investigators, James Ward, Amanda Durr, and Jo Lynn Coleman have all been taken into custody.

These individuals were wanted for questioning in connection with the burglary of Keith's Superstore in Mount Olive, the burglary and theft from a Covington County Supervisor's Beat Barn, the theft from the Northwest Covington Volunteer Fire Department, as well as other criminal investigations.

We also want to recognize the many citizens who called in tips, shared our posts, and remained vigilant. Your willingness to get involved made a real difference. Social media can sometimes be a place where people argue about pineapple on pizza or other mysteries of civilization, but this is one of those times it proved to be a valuable law enforcement tool.

The Covington County Sheriff's Department remains committed to protecting our communities and holding those responsible for criminal activity accountable. When law enforcement and the public work together, we send a clear message that crime has no safe haven in Covington County.

# # # Update Regarding Runaway Juvenile Investigation

On June 14, 2026, the Covington County Sheriff's Department received a report regarding **17-year-old Madison Renee Knight**, who was reported as a runaway juvenile from Covington County.

Upon receiving the report, deputies immediately initiated an investigation. Madison was entered into the National Crime Information Center (NCIC) database as a missing/runaway juvenile, and the Sheriff's Department requested the public's assistance in locating her by distributing information through social media and other public notification methods.

During the course of the investigation, investigators conducted numerous interviews, gathered additional information regarding Madison's whereabouts, and spoke with legal counsel representing Madison Renee Knight. Legal counsel advised investigators that Madison is safe and that the matters surrounding her custody are currently being addressed through the court system.

The investigation determined that this matter is **civil in nature and involves an ongoing custody dispute rather than a criminal runaway investigation**. Investigators further determined that Madison was aided by family members and/or friends in remaining outside the custody of her legal guardian. Based upon the totality of the investigation, there is no evidence that Madison was abducted or that foul play was involved.

As a result of these findings, Madison has been removed from the National Crime Information Center (NCIC) as a runaway juvenile, and the Covington County Sheriff's Department is no longer requesting the public's assistance in locating her.

The Covington County Sheriff's Department appreciates the concern shown by the public and the assistance provided throughout this investigation. The Sheriff's Department remains committed to thoroughly investigating every report involving a missing or endangered juvenile and taking all appropriate action to protect the safety and welfare of the children of Covington County.
